Alan Wojcik Reviews Gabe's Book Of ROH Secrets DVD

Since February 23, 2002 Ring of Honor had one person always associated with the product be it doing DVD commentary under awful assumed names or as the head booker. This past October that all changed when ROH's financial people namely Cary Silkin decided Gabe Sapolsky was going to be asked to leave the promotion he helped make into an internationally known company. In addition Sapolsky stopped booking the Florida based Full Impact Pro promotion which was ROH's sister promotion. For what appears to be the only time, Mr. Sapolsky sits down to air out what happened and what he had planned for the next months with KayfabeCommentaries.com for the DVD release Gabe's Book of ROH Secrets.

The KC.com host as always is Sean Oliver and he gives Mr. Sapolsky an open forum to address how ROH came to be after ECW folded, his booking style and how he even became the booker, the way he wrote and produced the DVD's, video wires and how the move to Pay Per View helped/hurt ROH. He talks going into the day he was asked to leave he had told Silkin he was going to make several changes including website content, booking "event" moments on the shows and dropping hype phrases he relied on for years. This isn't Sapolsky's first time working for KC.com, he did a Guest Booker DVD in which he booked the WWE's revival of ECW. This time the booking is what would have been on the DVD's if he had been running things in ROH. As comfortable as he seems in front of the camera, he also comes off as someone who is still trying to figure out what the hell happened. Sapolsky holds nothing back in addressing his feelings for the ROH fans and the talent he had at his disposal and what the future held for each of the top stars like Tyler Black, ROH World champion Nigel McGuiness, Austin Aries, Jimmy Jacobs, Davey Richards, Erick Stevens, Roderick Strong, the ROH Tag champs El Generico/Kevin Steen and others to be talked about. The following ROH events are discussed as "fantasy booking" in which Sapolsky opens up his loose leaf binder he used for booking:

11/7/08 The French Connection in Montreal, QC
11/8/08 Bound By Hate in Markham, ON
11/21/08 Escalation in Dayton, OH
11/22/08 Rising Above PPV in Chicago
12/5/08 Wrestling at the Gateway in Collinsville, IL
12/6/08 Southern Hostility in Nashville, TN
12/26/08 All Star Extravangza IV in Philadelphia
12/27/08 Final Battle 2008 in New York City

Like I mentioned its "fantasy booking" since Sapolsky mentions in the opening segment his last show he booked was 10/25/08 "Ring of Homicide 2" event and the last DVD he produced was "Glory By Honor VII" 9/20/08 event from Philadelphia. Watch this segment and then check out the ROH website to see how much of his stuff made it to the actual DVD taping. Doing that made the DVD more educational. I have never been a faithful watcher of ROH so Oliver asking Sapolsky to run down the state of ROH when he was let go was extremely helpful. This DVD is highly recommended to ROH fans who want to see behind the curtain in a way they may never see again. You can buy this DVD on www.kayfabecommentaries.com where you can check out upcoming DVD's like YouShoot: Kevin Sullivan, Inside the Office with Rene Goulet and Ringside with Vader.

Remembering a Friend! by Fidel Sierra the Cuban Assassin and Fantasy

One of the main reasons we wanted to write this column after our extended silence, is to ask everyone to take a moment out of your busy day on February 10, and remember Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig. It will be 6 years since he passed away. He was a good friend, a tremendous performer and a generous person all around who loved his family dearly. We think of him often and miss him to this day. So for those who knew him and even if you didn't, grab a shot of Jack Daniels and gargle one for Curt. He was one of the greats and a truly special friend.

We also want to congratulate Victoria on her awesome run with the WWE and wish her good luck in all her future ventures. It is very difficult to make the decision to retire and to get out of the business, because it gets in your blood and stays there, but surely we haven't heard the last of her yet. She is an awesome wrestler and has had a tremendous impact on the women's wrestling and the wrestling business in general. Enjoy your vacation and good luck.

You may have heard that Sgt. Slaughter is no longer with the WWE, but what you probably don't know is that me and him have still unfinished business back from the AWF days. He has managed to avoid me all these years but now that he can no longer hide behind the WWE, the time has come to settle our differences. So Slaughter consider this a direct challenge from Fidel Sierra, the Cuban Assassin, anytime, anywhere, I'm there.

We recently visited the Dominican Republic where we are currently working on getting some wrestling shows going. Negotiations are also on the way for regular shows here in Florida with a possibility of expansion. Our trip to Puerto Rico went well and we were glad to be part of WWC's closing show and special guests on the Cabana with Carlito and Primo Colon. It is always great to go back to P.R and we hope to make it back there soon, one way or the other, even if we don't agree with a lot of things going on, but that is for some other day.

Otherwise we are keeping busy with our Business "Crazy Dave's Sports Bar" located at 201 Keene Rd, Largo FL. 727 531-5518. Karaoke with the wrestlers went well and we have another one scheduled on Friday January 30, so if you are in the area stop by. On February 1, we also have a private super bowl party there, if interested call the bar and make your reservations now, limited space available. We have also expanded the menu, to include Cuban Sandwiches (it's about time).

It was good to see Dick Slater a few days ago when he stopped by our bar and we are glad to say that he looked good and he is hanging in there health wise. He has a lot of problems with his back but he is a fighter and doesn't give up. Shane Sewell from TNA also stopped by a few weeks ago and we are glad to see him doing so well, bottom line is you never know who you will run into over there, but one thing is for sure, you will have a great time, so make it a point and stop on by.

We are also available for bookings, conventions, appearances and any other special events. You can reach us at Cubanworldwide@aol.com and we will be glad to hear form you with any other comments.

Alan Wojcik Review Of The Essential Starrcade DVD Set

From 1983-2000 fans who watched NWA/WCW had one PPV to look forward to each year that was the culmination of the big feuds and the beginning of new ones. The event was called Starrcade and thanks to WWE Home Video young wrestling fans get to find out the history of the event with the STARRCADE ESSENTIAL COLLECTION DVD.

Back in 1983 wrestling was still in the territory system. World Wrestling Federation was still northeast based as Hulk Hogan had yet to arrive on the scene. Jim Crockett Promotions ran the Mid-Atlantic territory under the National Wrestling Alliance banner. A conversation between Dusty Rhodes and Barry Windham led them to approach promoter Jim Crockett Jr. and Thanksgiving night fans witnessed the inaugural event that saw "Nature Boy" Ric Flair take on the legendary Harley Race and other legendary battles listed below. The rest is history at the cliché goes. The documentary feature is great with interviews from Flair, Race, Rhodes, Windham, Road Warrior Animal, David Crockett, Arn Anderson, Roddy Piper, Greg Valentine, Eric Bischoff, Tully Blanchard, Paul Ellering, Jim Cornette (archival footage), Magnum TA, Jim Ross and the Brisco Brothers. Notably absent Ricky Steamboat, Steve Austin, Dustin Rhodes, Bob Caudle, Tony Schiavone and Hulk Hogan, all of whom contributed to the event over the years in some form or fashion. Understandable if the WWE couldn’t get them to talk on camera. Also absent is Vince McMahon who nearly bankrupted the Crockett’s by running his inaugural Survivor Series opposite Starrcade 1987. I found two Easter eggs; on Disc 1 double click on Thanksgiving Tradition to see Dusty Rhodes talk about Starrcade 1983. On Disc 1 double click on Flare for the Gold to see Ric Flair talking about a signature wall of fame at the Greensboro Coliseum. Almost all of the Starrcade events are mentioned except for the 1990 Pat O’Connor Tag Team Tournament or the Sting/Black Scorpion cage match.

The 25 matches featured in the collection are introduced by Hall of Fame announcers Jim Ross & Gene Okerlund, Four Horsemen members Nature Boy" Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson plus Road Warrior Animal, Dusty Rhodes and David Crockett. Like the History of the Intercontinental Championship DVD, the wrestling fans voted for the content of this DVD on www.wwe.com. Mr. Okerlund says in the opening they are in order of importance in wrestling history & pure excitement whatever that means. Unless they are really well hidden, there were no Easter eggs with the matches. Here is the list of matches in order from #25 to #1:

WCW World Heavyweight champion "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan vs. Roddy Piper (1996)
Sting vs. Great Muta (1989 Night of the Ironman)
Barry Windham/Brian Pillman vs. NWA World Tag Team champions Ricky Steamboat/Shane Douglas (1992)
Kevin Nash vs. WCW World Heavyweight champion Bill Goldberg (1998)
The 1991 Battlebowl Battle Royal
Dustin Rhodes vs. "Stunning" Steve Austin (1993 2 of 3 falls for US Heavyweight championship)
Road Warriors vs. NWA World Tag Team champions Arn Anderson/Tully Blanchard (1987 w/alternate commentary by Todd Grisham/Animal)
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Jushin "Thunder" Liger (1996)
Rock N’ Roll Express vs. Midnight Express (Stan Lane/Bobby Eaton) (1987 Scaffold Match)
NWA World Heavyweight champion "Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. Lex Luger (1988)
Eddie Guerrero vs. Shinjiro Otani (1995 WCW vs. New Japan)
"American Dream" Dusty Rhodes/Sting vs. NWA World Tag Team champions Road Warriors (1988)
Sting vs. Big Van Vader (1992)
NWA World Tag Team champions Jack & Gerry Brisco vs. Ricky Steamboat/Jay Youngblood (1983)
"American Dream" Dusty Rhodes vs. NWA World Heavyweight champion "Nature Boy" Ric Flair (1985)
WCW World Cruiserweight champion Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko (1997)
Road Warriors vs. Steiner Brothers (1989 Night of the Ironman)
3 Count members Shannon Moore/Shane Helms vs. Jung Dragons members Jimmy Yang/Kaz Hiashi vs. Evan Karagias/Jamie Knoble (2000 Ladder Match)
Sting vs. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair (1989 Night of the Ironman)
US Heavyweight champion Greg "the Hammer" Valentine vs. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper (1983 Dog Collar Match)
Road Warriors vs. Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey/Bobby Eaton) (1986 Scaffold match w/alternate commentary by Todd Grisham/Animal)
Sting vs. WCW World Heavyweight champion "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan (1997 w/special referee Bret "Hitman" Hart))
NWA World Heavyweight champion Harley Race vs. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair (1983 Steel Cage Match)
Magnum TA vs. US Heavyweight champion Tully Blanchard (1985 I Quit Steel Cage Match)
WCW World Heavyweight champion Vader vs. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair (1993)

I probably shouldn’t inject personal opinion in this review but since its mine, I have major problems with the fans that voted Sting vs. Muta as #24 or even listed Hogan/Piper on the list. If you own the Steel Cage DVD or the Ric Flair DVD’s or the even the Ladder Match DVD you have some of these matches already in your collection. I think the WWE should have also added in the judging process does the match stand up today as the best of the best. I doubt Sting/Hogan from 1997 would top Sting’s personal best in my career list even though it had historical significance in WCW. All of Flair’s matches stand up as great and so do the Road Warriors tag matches. It’s great to see so many of these matches once again since some haven’t seen the light of day since an NWA Best of Starrcade VHS release in the previous decades. You can buy this DVD in major retailers or through www.wwe.com

DVD Review: Last Call With Raven And Sandman

Courtesy of Main Event Radio's Steven Wilson:

In the past, the Pro Wrestling’s Ultimate Insiders shoot interview series was known for being informative and groundbreaking. Vince Russo and Ed Farrara brought the series to the forefront, and now Raven, Sandman, Terry Funk and The Gangsters have taken it straight to comedic hell with the latest installment entitled “Last Call with Raven and Sandman”Hosted as always by Dr Keith Lipinski and set in a make shift bar scene, from the opening seconds of Last Call you know this isn’t going to be your typical shoot interview. Instead you get 90 minutes of pure drunk insanity.

Im sure all of you reading this have at one time or another been at a party where that one guy who has had too much to drink just won’t shut up, and proceeds to yell and scream various embarrassing stories or spew some controversial opinions, now picture that person times 4, and the 4 being Raven, Sandman, New Jack and Mustafa, add in Terry Funk telling a story of how when he was 12 he got a “moo job” from a calf he was raising on his family ranch and I think you know what to expect. Amongst the various topics touched on are New Jack’s bold predictions for the Obama administration, Sandman’s departure from the WWE, Raven’s departure from TNA, oh and drugs, drugs and more drugs. Poor Keith Lipinski is the target of much abuse and has the impossible task of trying to ask these guys questions while also supplying them with drink after drink.

Extras include: New Jack’s entire speech from Terry Funk’s retirement banquet the night before ECW’s first PPV event where Jack was so high that he barely talked about Terry in the 15 minute tribute. Also included is 6 matchups from the XPW video library, these are Terry Funk vs Shane Douglas, The Sandman vs Supreme, Raven vs Vic Grimes, New Jack vs Kaos, J.N vs Chronic (Feat Mustafa), and New Jack vs The Messiah.

If you’re like me and are a huge fan of Raven, Sandman, The Gangsters, and Terry Funk then despite the randomness your bound to enjoy the train wreck that is Last Call. It’s absolutely hilarious at times, confusing during others, and downright disturbing as well, but in the end its these guys doing what they do best, and that entertaining you with some of the stories that have made them famous. After all who would turn down a chance to have a beer with these hardcore legends? Not everyone gets that chance in real life, but you can get the same experience by picking up this DVD.

Last Call with Raven and Sandman is now available on DVD from Big Vision Entertainment, For more information or to order your own copy check out www.bvdvd.com, and to read my previous DVD reviews check out www.wrestlingdvdreviews.vze.com or add the myspace profile via myspace.com/wrestlingdvdreviews.

1/24 Debut Of NWA Charlotte

Courtesy of Larry Goodman:

You don’t get a second chance a first impression. NWA Charlotte stepped up to the plate in the heart of the old NWA Mid-Atlantic territory Saturday night and knocked the ball out of the park.

Their debut show exceeded the expectations of just about everyone involved. This was, in my experience, a rare thing – a new promotion in a new facility, and promoter J. D. Costello and company had all their ducks in a row.

Over 400 fans filled the newly constructed NWA Coliseum. A very hot crowd. I got the sense that a lot of these fans were not used to attending live shows, and were seeing pro wrestling through relatively fresh eyes.

The Coliseum is a warehouse space built to the specifications of a wrestling arena – intimate and big league at the same time. On three sides, it has floor seating to accommodate 500 plus bleachers. The fourth side has the entrance ramp and a stage for interviews. There’s a big screen for video. The lighting and sound are both excellent. With a tad more lighting, it would be perfect for shooting TV. Mad props to Brady Parker, the man responsible for building it out from scratch.

Right from the start, this show clearly defined the major players and stories, and made the titles feel important. The ringwork was generally quite good. It had the kind of atmosphere that brings people back for more, and they made sure to give them reasons to come back by with angles to set up matches for the follow up shows.

No show is perfect. Two matches involving legends was one too many. Including the cruiserweight title story with Mike Jackson was overkill. Edit that out and the show ends in under 3 hours and maybe the crowd doesn’t start to fade like they did. The other negative was the repetitive postmatch beatdowns on the babyfaces by sore loser heels. Fixable things for sure.

Pre-show, the new NWA National Champion Phil Shatter was interviewed by Eddie
Rich. Shatter was really impressive on the mic, supremely confident and crystal clear with his delivery.

Three generations of the Young family were introduced as the referees: Tommy Young, his son, Tim and grandson, Ace.

An awesome introductory video was played on the big screen. This was major waving of the NWA flag. It talked about the all-time greats from the Mid-Atlantic territory. Naturally, there was a mega pop for Flair. The cool thing was the way it linked the NWA’s rich heritage to the present by showing all of the current major NWA champions (the only one missing was Mike Quackenbush).
The closing line – “Get ready to believe again.”

Costello addressed the crowd. He worked Jim Crockett back in the day. Costello talked about tradition and promised low prices. He introduced NWA Executive Director Bob Trobich. Trobich said NWA Charlotte was going to give the fans pro wrestling not Sports Entertainment.

“The Voice of NWA Charlotte” Jay Joyce introduced the first match. Joyce is a man of mammoth proportions. He’s a got a great voice but they need to keep him away from the wrestlers, because most of them look like dwarfs by comparison.

(1) Chaotic Agony (Joey Agony & Ryan Chaos) beat Jeff Lewis & Kimo (with Attorney Jeff G. Bailey) in 9 minutes. Chaotic Agony were the weakest workers on the show. The crowd was so jazzed to see wrestling it mattered not. They were popping for basic moves. The key thing was Kimo really got over as Bailey’s psychopathic Asian assassin. The mere removal of Kimo’s hood got a reaction. It should. The guy looks like he’s completely out of his skull. But it was Kimo’s devastating offense that really got the crowd going. Chaos took the brunt of it. Finish was Agony pinning Lewis with a roll up, while Kimo was busy destroying Chaos.

Lewis & Kimo gave the faces a beating after the match. This would become a pattern. Kimo applied the Information Extractor to Agony.

(2) Dylan Kage beat Joey Silvia in 8:20. This was spotfest style with the fans reacting bigtime like an ROH crowd. Kind of early on the card, but it was the only match of that type on the show, so I thought it worked fine. Silvia is a little guy that was immediately over with the prototype babyface look. Kage has this Vampiro thing going. It’s interesting. He needs to work on his body some. The work was so smooth that it looked like they’ve worked each other a lot, although apparently that was not the case. Lots of flashy, innovative moves. Kage hit Doug Williams’ Chaos Theory for a near fall. I can guarantee that 99% of these fans had never seen it. Silvia used this amazing back flip suplex deal that I can’t begin to describe. Kage pinned Silvia after taking his head off with a spinkick.

Ivan Koloff was interviewed by Lodi. Koloff started by thanking his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Koloff said he had wrestled all over during his 40 year career, but his heart was in the NWA. He speculated about the condition of Barbarian. Was he still a monster or was he fat from eating too many pineapples? Barbarian came out looking amazingly close to the way he did 20 years ago. Bailey was with him. Bailey said Barbarian was “an uber legend” that was still benching 800 pounds.

I’m glad to hear you’ve got a personal relationship with Jesus, because you’re gonna need him.

Barbarian attacked Koloff from behind and choked him with his chain until security intervened. Costello threatened to fire Barbarian. He added a stipulation to their Legends title match – it was now a Russian Chain Match.

(3) Truitt Fields beat Ryan O’Reilly in 8 minutes. O’Reilly’s body has changed since his days in WWE developmental. He’s beefy – almost like a Mike Knox. He looked gigantic compared to Fields, who has great muscular definition but average height. O’Reilly worked over the knee with Fields selling it great. His knee got hung up in the ropes, and O’Reilly really went to town. O’Reilly gave Fields a wicked body slam into the ropes. When O’Reilly went for a kneebreaker, Fields went over the top with a sunset flip for the pin.

O’Reilly clocked Fields after the match. He said Fields won the battle but not the war and declared his intention to become the NWA Charlotte Heavyweight Champion.

(4) New Wave (Derrick Driver & Steven Walters) beat The Naturals (Chase Stevens & Andy Douglas) in 14 minutes.Solid match. New Wave had a few shaky moments but not a problem with Naturals to steer the ship. Naturals bumped and sold for New Wave’s offense early. Walters went for an ill-advised up & over and Stevens countered with a killer Alabama Slam to start the heat. Douglas hit a big backbreaker, and showed off that new physique with a double biceps pose. Crowd got behind New Wave here. They did a cool double down spot to set up the hot tag – Douglas leveled Walters with a lariat from the apron, then Driver returned the favor by leveling Stevens. New Wave busted out the combo move. It went four way and they did a four man tower of doom spot with Douglas on top taking the superplex. Douglas came back to hit a huge double underhook faceplant on Driver. Finish saw Walters avoid Stevens hard charge into the corner and roll him up on the rebound.

Naturals gave New Wave a massive beatdown after the match and got a lot of heat in the process. They gave Walters a stuff piledriver. Stevens had Driver tapping in a submission.

Intermission.

(5) Mike Jackson pinned Ultimate Dragon to retain the Southeast Cruiserweight Championship in 11:40 with a spinning neckbreaker. Jackson earned the crowd’s respect as being very tough and athletic for 59 years old. He did his ropes walk deal. Bad match. Dragon was lousy. Lots of loose spots and it dragged to the point the crowd wanted Jackson to get it over with, and they popped when he did.

Kage came out. “You, old man, are the past. You’re looking at the future.” Kage said he believed fairies after seeing Jackson do the ropes walk. Kage slapped him. Jackson fired up and clotheslined Kage out of the ring.

Rich announced Awesome Kong vs. MsChif for the NWA Women’s Title for the February 14 return - “Thorns & Roses” - with all ladies admitted free.

(6) Ivan Koloff beat The Barbarian (with Jeff G. Bailey) in a Russian Chain Match to win the NWA Charlotte Legends Title (8:40). Watching Ivan make his way into the ring, I was expecting the worst. He really does not need to be in a wrestling ring at the age of 66. Amazingly, the match worked. Koloff attacked Barbarian before the bell. He beat on Barbarian with the chain. Barbarian bailed and Koloff yanked the chain to post him. Barbarian bled a bit. Barbarian used a low blow to take over. They traded chair shots on the outside. Barbarian missed the diving headbutt. The crowd chanted for Ivan. He crotched Barbarian with the chain and beat him senseless with it. The finish worked great. Koloff touched three corner. As he went for the fourth, Bailey grabbed him by the leg. Tommy Young was distracted by Bailey’s antics and didn’t see Koloff make the touch. While Koloff was fooling with Bailey, Barbarian touched the fourth turnbuckle. Young saw that and signaled for the bell. Koloff had the “what just happened?” look. Fan outrage ensued. Hearing the pleas from the NWA officials and the fans, Young reversed the decision.

Barbarian went berserk. He attacked three generations of the Young family. He gave Tommy Young a headbutt. Tim Young ate a big boot. Ace got tossed out of the ring. Then he nailed a couple of security guys with the chain and beat on Ivan. Costello made a rematch for February 14. Crowd popped huge when Ivan said he would have Nikita Koloff in his corner.

(7) Phil Shatter retained the NWA National Championship going to a double DQ with Mikael Judas (10:20). These guys always have good matches and this was no exception. Shatter has that heavyweight champion aura about him. Judas’ entrance made an impression. On the surface, there’s nothing babyface about it, but the crowd took to him as the babyface. Maybe they just hated Shatter. Judas was destroying Shatter early. Shatter broke free of a choke slam goozle, Judas countered the PTSD, although these fans didn’t recognize it as Shatter’s finisher. The action spilled out of the ring where Shatter gave Judas a suplex on the ramp. Body of the match was Shatter working on the back of Judas and fighting off the occasional choke slam attempt. Shatter used a major league Boston crab and a spinebuster slam. The DQ came when ref Ace Young got tossed by both men as he tried to force a break. That didn’t stop Judas, who thrashed Shatter with a suplex into the turnbuckles.

Costello started talking about the NWA Charlotte Heavyweight Title. Judas was still in the ring holding Shatter’s National belt. Shatter was at ringside. O’Reilly came out and said he wanted a title shot. Fields came out to remind O’Reilly that he beat him, so he should get the shot. Costello told them to lower the testosterone, because he was bringing in “The Insane Lumberjack” Timber as a contender. It wasn’t clear who Timber would be facing or if the National Title and the NWA Charlotte title were one and the same. (After the show, Trobich clarified that the NWA Charlotte Title would be introduced as a new title). Presuming that the National title is going to be defended here, that’s too many singles titles (National, Charlotte, Legends and Cruiserweight).

(8) Adam Pearce beat Brent Albright to become the number one contender for the NWA World Heavyweight Title in 16 minutes. A battle between two former world champions (twice for Pearce). Crowd was needing to catch their second wind. Pearce stalled. Crowd was hating him for it. They chanted “Repo Man” at him. He bit Albright’s forehead to start the blood flow. That got a “you sick freak” chant. Albright crotched Pearce on the top and hit a superplex. Both men struggled to their feet at 9. The action moved to ringside, Pearce bled. Back inside, they traded brutal, stiff blows with both men on the verge of exhaustion. Albright scored a series of near falls. Pearce snuck one in with his feet on the ropes. The big spot was Pearce giving Albright a DDT on the apron. Albright barely beat the 10 count. Crowd came back strong for the false finishes. Albright kicked out of piledriver. Pearce kicked out a half nelson suplex. Peace shielded the ref as he donkey kicked Albright in the groin, and then pinned him with a piledriver. Well done. It had the big match feel. They actually exceeded the announced time limit, which was cut down from the scheduled 20 minutes to 15.

NOTES: Krissy Vaine was in the house looking gorgeous as always…Commentary for the video production was provided by Lodi and Tim Dixon. It was a three camera shoot…Dick Bourne from the Mid Atlantic Gateway was introduced to the crowd as was long time Charlotte fan, Peggy Latham…Current plans call for shows on the second and fourth Saturday of every month (opposite NWA Anarchy on the first and third Saturdays)…Trobich said that due to the great look and atmosphere of the facility, the NWA will be giving consideration to shooting some television shows there…For photos by Blake Arledge check www.nwaphotos.com, but give him a few days to get them posted.

Update On Jeff Monson

On Tuesday, Jeff Monson (free from his excursion in a North Carolina jail) was back in Olympia, Washington, where he copped a not-guilty plea to charges of malicious mischief.

A twenty-thousand-dollar bond has, for the moment, insured Monson's freedom, but he wasn't allowed to keep his passport, as the judge felt Monson was a flight risk.

Monson's attorney plans to appeal the latter, because, in February, Monson's scheduled to fight in St. Petersburg, Russia, and in March, Tokyo.

Besides, Monson, 38, has lived in Olympia for nearly thirty-years, and has a(t least one) wife and two kids, so he appears firmly rooted.

More to come.

All the energy and excitement that we have brought to the fight business we are now going to bring to the fitness business. There is going to be something for everybody at all levels – from first timers to world class athletes – we’re going to get people excited and motivated to work out and get in great shape.”

An introduction from a friend, Perry Rogers, to Lorenzo Fertitta and Dana White of the UFC, immediately sparked the idea of combining the strength of the UFC with our expertise in the fitness industry," said Mark Mastrov, co-Founder, New Evolution Fitness Company. "The manner in which we approach business, the style in which we run our companies and the passion we share for fitness has made this an easy decision and a natural partnership. The fitness industry needs innovation, it needs something to get excited about and we all agree that UFC Gyms will deliver on that in every way."
