Hartselle, Alabama, is presently working toward legislation of mixed-martial-arts events, which, if you know me, is always considered to be a good thing.
Some of their proposals are quite easy to understand, such as (and I'm paraphrasing):
* Participants must be at least eighteen-years-of-age.
* Participants will be required to take pre-and-post-fight physicals.
* Promoters will be required to purchase a business license.
* Promoters will be required to provide, at their cost, an on-site paramedic, EMT, and off-duty police officer.
* Prior to all events, promoters will be required to notify the local ER.
Some of their proposals have left me scratching my head, such as (and I'm paraphrasing):
* If a participant is eighteen-years-old, they need parental permission to compete. (Um, okay?...)
* Promoters will be required to carry one-million-dollars-worth of insurance on each fighter and two-million on themselves. (Insurance is a wonderful idea, but those amounts seem a bit high, especially since promoters of amateur or pro boxing, and of professional wrestling, aren't even required to carry it.)
