NOSTALGIA

1927: Strangler Lewis, managed by Billy Sandow, defeated Jack Washburn in two straight falls in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter John Contos.

1931: Dick Daviscourt defeated Frank Speer in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Henry Weber.

1939: Cyclone Burns defeated Bob Corby in the main event at the Sports Arena in Atlanta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Tom McCarthy.

1944: Son Almand defeated Bill Collins in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.

1949: Don & Bill ‘Red’ McIntyre defeated Jack Dillon & Abe Zvonkin in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.

1950: Jack Kennedy defeated Art Nelson to win the Southern Heavyweight Title in a No Disqualification Match at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Nelson had been the reigning champion since he defeated Don McIntyre on July 7, 1950, in Atlanta. Strangler Lewis was the special referee for the match.

1952: Leslie Carlton, managed by ‘Sir’ James Hartley, defeated Nick Carter two falls to one in the main event at the William Bell Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Tom Mahoney.

1961: The Assassin defeated Jack Bence in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.

1963: Chief Little Eagle defeated Ivan Zukoff in the main event at the Fort Gordon Sports Arena in Augusta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoters Steve Manderson and Fred Hornby.

1967: Lou Thesz & Mr. Wrestling, seconded by Enrique & Alberto Torres, defeated Oki Yama & El Mongol, managed by ‘Dandy’ Jack Crawford, by disqualification in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. The program for this card featured a photo of Butcher Vachon and a masked man, with text from Vachon stating that this should prove he and Yama are not the same person, despite accusations. The mask the man wore in the photo was different than the one fans were accustomed to seeing on Yama.

1970: Paul DeMarco defeated Buddy Colt, managed by Homer O’Dell, in the main event at the Macon Coliseum for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward.

1972: Georgia Tag Team Champions Dick Steinborn & Argentina Apollo and the Hollywood Blonds wrestled to a draw in a title match at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Steinborn & Apollo had been the reigning champions since they defeated Ox Baker & Skandor Akbar on October 20, 1972, in Atlanta.

1973: Bobby Shane & Gorgeous George, Jr., defeated Bobby Cash & Bob Orton, Jr., in the main event at the Auction Building in Douglasville, and Bob Armstrong & Robert Fuller defeated Bobby Duncum & Stan Vachon in the main event at the Griffin-Barnesville Sports Palace. Both cards were for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.

1975: Mr. Wrestling #2 and the Spoiler, managed by Gary Hart, wrestled to a draw in the main event at the William Bell Auditorium in Augusta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Charlie Harbin.

1978: Ole Anderson & Stan Hansen defeated Tommy Rich & Mr. Wrestling #2 to retain the Georgia Tag Team Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Anderson & Hansen had been the reigning champions since they defeated Rick Martel & Tommy Rich on October 20, 1978, in Atlanta. In the main event, Anderson defeated Pez Whatley in a Lights Out Match, where falls counted anywhere in the building.

1979: Killer Karl Kox, managed by Bobby Heenan, defeated Stan Hansen to win the Georgia Television Title at the WTBS Studios in Atlanta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Hansen had only been champion since then night before, when he defeated Ernie Ladd, also managed by Heenan, in Atlanta.

1980: Terry Gordy, seconded by Michael Hayes and Buddy Roberts, defeated Jack Brisco in the main event at the William Bell Auditorium in Augusta.

2005: High Impact defeated the FBI in the main event at the Deep South Arena in McDonough for Deep South Wrestling, at the time a developmental company for World Wrestling Entertainment.
