Florian, Guida And Machida Also Featured In First Six Produced Under UFC Agreement

Source - Round 5:

MARKHAM, Ontario, Canada, September 29, 2009 – Its landmark marketing partnership freshly in place, Round 5 is pleased to announce the members of the first series of collectible figurines under the UFC brand, a group of six accomplished fighters, as announced today by Barron Lau, Round 5 CEO and co-founder and Damon Lau, president and co-founder. Figurines for stars Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell, Georges “Rush” St. Pierre, “Suga” Rashad Evans, Kenny “KenFlo” Florian, Clay “The Carpenter” Guida and Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida are scheduled to be available at retail and at www.Round5MMA.com early next year.

The six collectibles will be presented in a new UFC-themed packaging that includes action photos of each respective fighter's memorable moments as well as a short biography.

“These six athletes provide a strong, varied base for our first UFC series,” said Damon Lau. “There are established champions like Chuck Liddell and George St. Pierre, popular up-andcomers like Rashad Evans and Kenny Florian and guys like Clay Guida and Lyoto Machida who have loyal, growing followings.”

“We think fans will really connect to these collectibles through their detail and the enhanced packaging,” said Barron Lau. “We want them to feel that by owning a Round 5 figurine, they, in a sense, own a piece of that fighter.”

The issuance of UFC Series 1 signals the discontinuation of the previous Round 5 Series. The remaining inventory from the 17 figurines issued in the previous four Series under that brand will continue to be available while supplies last. Limited editions and other special versions of the UFC Series 1 athletes are also in the planning stages.

“The Limited Editions we have issued have been wildly popular, so we are definitely looking at expanding those offerings,” added Barron Lau.

Liddell, one of the most popular MMA fighters ever, held the UFC light heavyweight belt for two years, using his devastating striking skills to rack up a 21-7 record, including 13 knockouts, against a top-shelf list of opponents since his 1998 debut at UFC 17. He also showed his power by ending all five of his successful title defenses with a KO or TKO.

St. Pierre is often mentioned on the short list of top “pound-for-pound” fighters in MMA, and he's backed up that distinction with wins in his last six bouts, all headliners, to raise his overall mark to 19-2. The UFC welterweight champion proudly represents his native Montreal, Canada.

Evans has shed his underdog status with a series of standout victories, moving to light heavyweight after winning The Ultimate Fighter 2 television series as a heavyweight. Now 13-1-1, successive wins over Michael Bisping, Liddell and Forrest Griffin were surprises to many and earned “Suga” his first title defense earlier this year, a loss to Machida.

Florian is another graduate of The Ultimate Fighter who has fulfilled his promise, springboarding from his strong performance in TUF 1 to post an 11-4 record and headline cards. He has also branched out to the media side of the sport as a weekly host of MMA Live on ESPN and several UFC color commentary stints.

Guida has ridden strong conditioning, action-packed fights and a flashy style to a prolific MMA career, with 35 bouts (25 wins) to his credit. Known as “The Carpenter” for his previous career while he trained and fought for his chance, Guida is a frequent “Fight of the Night” honoree, including his last bout, a split decision defeat in a free-for-all with Diego Sanchez in June.

Machida is also prominent in the “pound-for-pound” discussion, made even more evident by his win over previously-unbeaten Evans at UFC 98 in May, in which “The Dragon's” lightning quick form and powerful striking was on full display. The undefeated (15-0) UFC light heavyweight champion is scheduled to make his first defense against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua on October 24.

Round 5 collectible figures may be purchased at leading North American retailers such as Toys ‘R’ Us, Kmart and Walmart. Other retailers can be found at www.round5mma.com/wheretobuy.php.

About Round 5

Round 5 (www.Round5MMA.com), headquartered in Markham, Ontario, Canada, is the MMA industry’s fastest growing worldwide collectible figure company. Committed to developing intricately detailed figures, Round 5 strives to remain true to the sport of MMA and its personalities.

Tim Kennedy Chokes Out Zak Cummings; Two-Time Olympian Daniel Cormier Makes Successful MMA Debut At STRIKEFORCE Challengers

Source - Strikeforce:

Woodley, Longacre, and Sefo all winners on SHOWTIME® in Tulsa, Oklahoma

NEW YORK (September 26, 2009) – United States Army veteran and rising middleweight mixed martial arts (MMA) star Tim Kennedy (11-2) dominated a previously unbeaten Zak Cummings (10-1), submitting Cummings with a north-south choke in the second round (2:43) of their STRIKEFORCE Challengers main event battle live on SHOWTIME from Tulsa, Oklahoma’s SpiritBank Event Center on Friday, September 25.

In his highly-anticipated MMA debut, two-time U.S. Olympic wrestling team member Daniel Cormier (1-0) displayed signs of a bright future in the sport, stopping Gary Frazier (0-1) with a ground and pound offensive in the second round (3:39) of battle.

Kennedy, a 29-year-old former sniper for the Seventh Special Forces who recently accepted a position with The Texas National Guard in order to be able to pursue his MMA career more thoroughly, rocked the 25-year-old Cummings early in the first round after the two engaged on their feet.

Kennedy secured a takedown and began to unload with punches from half guard. Cummings rolled out and mounted Kennedy, but Kennedy quickly escaped and went on the offensive again with non-stop punches and regained the mount.

After surviving the first round, Cummings attempted a takedown early in the second stanza, but was caught with a left hand before escaping an attempted standing guillotine choke.

While trying to flee Kennedy’s clutches, Cummings fell to the canvas into a choke hold. Kennedy transitioned to a north-south choke hold and Cummings tapped out.

The 30-year-old Cormier, the 2001 NCAA national wrestling championship tournament runner-up for Oklahoma State University, stalked Frazier (0-1) from the outset of the card’s first live SHOWTIME televised bout. Frazier, a 21-year-old native of Shawnee, Oklahoma, attempted to run, but Cormier caught up and, in the second round, worked his way to the mount position after slamming Frazier to the canvas.

Cormier hammered Frazier with punches from the mount, prompting Frazier to give up his back. Cormier continued to batter Frazier from top position until the referee stopped the fight due to Frazier’s inability to defend himself any longer.

Another former NCAA Division I wrestling star and one of MMA’s most promising young prospects, 27-year-old Tyron “T-Wood” Woodley (4-0) of St. Louis, Missouri extended his perfect record, submitting Huntington Beach, California’s Zach “The Lisbon Outlaw” Light (6-9) with an arm bar in the second round (3:38) of action.

Woodley asserted himself with his superior athletic ability in the first round, scooping up Light and slamming him to the canvas. Woodley was able to mount Light twice in the round, but Light defended well, not allowing Woodley to create too much space between the fighters.

Woodley scored another slam in the second round and transitioned to an arm bar from which Light tapped out.

Kevin “The Shaman” Jordan (11-8) utilized his MMA experience to take down six-time world kickboxing champion and K-1 legend Ray “Sugarfoot” Sefo (2-0) in the first round of a heavyweight bout. Jordan mounted and rained down on Sefo, still a newcomer to MMA, with punches.

In danger, Sefo repeatedly popped his hips up in an effort to throw Jordan from the mount. Although Sefo was unsuccessful at changing position, he survived the round.

Jordan shot for a takedown after the fighters squared off at the beginning of the second round. On the way in, however, he dropped to the canvas in pain and verbally submitted at the 24 second mark of the round. Jordan is being examined for a possible torn quadriceps of the right knee.

Local rivals and world class kickboxers Thomas Longacre (5-0) and Travis “The Dark Knight” Calanoc (4-1) put on a fireworks show full of rapid exchanges of punches and round kicks on their feet.

Longacre dominated the matchup from punching range early in the first round before Calanoc briefly turned the tides with his own boxing skills.

In the second stanza, Longacre took over with repeated flurries. He continued to find his mark in the third round. After the fight went to the mat, Calanoc maneuvered impressively from his back and attempted an arm bar in the third round, but Longacre escaped and brought the fight back to stand up mode.

In the final 10 seconds of the bout, Longacre and Calanoc swung away at each other relentlessly until the bell sounded.

STRIKEFORCE Challengers is a proving ground for up-and-coming MMA fighters. The series is designed to provide today’s top prospects with the opportunity to step-up their level of competition and demonstrate their ability in a nationally televised event.

Friday's fights will re-air on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 11 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME 2. The telecast will also be available On Demand beginning Monday, Sept. 28, and running through Oct. 25.

Bonnie Hammer Moves Up In Third-Annual 'Mediaweek 50' (Although No Mention Of WWE Was Made)

In case you don't know (and I didn't), the 'Mediaweek 50' is a ranking of executives, which is based on their performance for the year.

Hammer, (tongue-twister alert) NBC Universal Cable Entertainment's President, placed sixth (she was eleventh, in 2008), for her ability to lead USA Network to its summer average of three-point-six-million viewers in prime-time, and her successful re-branding of the Syfy Network.

Programs 'Royal Pains' and 'Warehouse 13' (whatever they are) were cited in the issue, cover dated September 21, 2009, as was Hammer's involvement with scripts (including those of WWE programming, although that also wasn't mentioned).

Sylvain Grenier joined Ryan Rider on the Main Event radio show this past Sunday on CJLO 1690am in Montreal to talk about the TOW 4 event. The full interview audio can be downloaded at our show website at http://www.maineventradio.com. Here are some highlights of the interview...

Comments on the TOW Event: The first three events of mine were phenomenally successful which is why we're doing this one and another one in March. We're also working on a pilot for French TV show in Montreal. Pat [Patterson] paved the way for us and is still the right-hand man of Vince McMahon. It's such an honor to have him on our show. We're going to have a little tribute to him. My good friend Simon Dean is flying in from the United States to show the Canadians how to do it the American way with the "Simon System." The big giant Matt Morgan from TNA. Honky Tonk Man and Jay Phenomenon - two singers, very different styles. Honky's been the man for so many years, what a great guy. With tickets starting at $5, it's a steal!

Rene Dupree: Rene has never been too organized in his life. Nothing has changed - I even stepped on my own pride and called him for my last show...I hope things are doing well for him but I don't think we will ever work together again."

Whether there is any interest from WWE to bring him back: I talked with them at Breaking Point, I had a good conversation with the people in charge, and it's a matter of time until we could talk some more. I have a lot of things going on in Montreal though - I'm on RDS, I'm on TV every week, I have my own promotion now, I have my wrestling school happening. So I'm really busy but if WWE needs me I'll be there for them. I brought one of my students and they really liked him and offered him a contract.

On Working with Ring of Honor in April: I pulled out all my hairs. It was totally different. They go 100 miles an hour, I was not brought up this way. I learned to tell a story and entertain people and I don't think it's possible over there. They don't draw any money, they have a different product and it's hard, impossible, to compete with a product like WWE. They tried to go on a league of their own and I don't think it's attracting a new audience because it's not entertaining. They need some more characters, some more mic skills, and some storylines. Everybody can do a brainbuster. Why you're doing it, how you're doing it, what time, it makes the difference. I think they're missing the boat.

How his skills have improved since leaving World Wrestling Entertainment: I was just talking with Chris Jericho at the Pay-Per-View, and I said man I did my career backwards. I did my first match in front of 20,000 people and my last match was in front of 250 people. And he said, Sly, if you can entertain 20 people than you can entertain 20,000. So I did a year in Montreal, now I'm going to be wrestling in New Brunswick, autograph signings in the States, and I'm going to be wrestling more in the states. Without TV time limits on the indy circuit, I was able to do whatever I want. I was able try stuff - sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. So now if I go back to the WWE, I'll be ready for the new challenge.

FOOTBALL LEGEND HERSCHEL WALKER SIGNS WITH STRIKEFORCE MMA

Source - Strikeforce:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK (September 21, 2009)–-Former NFL and NCAA football superstar Herschel Walker will enter a new chapter in his career as a professional athlete when he makes his debut as a heavyweight in the world’s fastest growing sport – mixed martial arts (MMA) - as part of a multi-fight contract he has signed with world championship promotion STRIKEFORCE.

The 1982 Heisman Trophy winner and two-time Pro Bowl competitor will begin a 12 week training camp next month at San Jose, California’s American Kickboxing Academy (AKA), which plays home to a host of the world’s greatest fighters, including STRIKEFORCE Lightweight Champion Josh “The Punk” Thomson. The 6 foot 1 inch, 220 pound former running back, who already holds a fifth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and boasts additional training in the combat disciplines of Muay Thai and Kenpo, will be trained by AKA co-owner and head trainer Bob Cook.

“I’ve been training for several years. I would play college football games on Saturday and then compete in martial arts tournaments on Sunday after church I’m now looking forward to opening up another chapter in my life and to competing in MMA,” said Walker, who recently was a contestant on the second hit season of Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice reality series on NBC.

“I flew to LA last month to watch Herschel train and was surprised to see his advanced wrestling and striking abilities,” said STRIKEFORCE Founder and CEO Scott Coker, a martial arts promoter of over 25 years. “He’s got work ahead of him, but he’s committed to training at one of the most notable gyms in the sport of MMA so it will be very interesting to watch him progress.”

Walker, a 1999 College Hall of Fame inductee who was also selected to Sports Illustrated’s NCAA All-Century Team that year, has never been one to shy away from the road less traveled.

Following his junior year at the University of Georgia where he had set the NCAA freshman rushing record en route to an undefeated season and Sugar Bowl championship victory over Notre Dame, Walker, a born-again Christian, astonished the sports world by withdrawing from school to play professional ball in the newly formed United States Football League (USFL) rather than wait to enter the NFL draft after the graduation of his collegiate class, a rule maintained by the world’s largest professional football league at the time.

While the vast majority of football players typically follow an intensive weight room regimen, Walker relied on bodyweight exercise, conditioning, and calisthenics while maintaining very little body fat.

Walker was eventually drafted in 1985 by The Dallas Cowboys and established himself as a premiere running back in the league. In 1986, he was the driving force behind a historic trade that sent in to The Minnesota Vikings in exchange for five players and six draft picks.

In 12 NFL seasons with four different teams, he became the only player to gain 4,000 yards three different ways – rushing, receiving, and kickoff returns. He is one of six players to exceed 60 touchdowns rushing and 20 touchdowns receiving and is the only player in NFL history to register a 90 plus yard reception, a 90 plus yard run, and a 90 plus yard kickoff return, all in one season (1994).

Off the gridiron, Walker has achieved a handful of feats, including a seventh place finish in the 1992 Winter Olympics two-man bobsled competition. He also nearly made the Olympic sprint relay team.

Now 47 years of age, Walker, a native of Wrightsville, Georgia, will look to conquer a whole new world. It is a challenge he is extremely optimistic about.

“I will go in there and test myself against any 20 year old,” said Walker. “I know there will be naysayers and I’m fine with that. I want to prove to people who sit on a couch and don’t do anything but criticize other people that, if you’re a true athlete or martial artist, you’re not old until you can’t get up and walk around anymore. MMA fighters are said to be some of the best athletes in the world, my plan at the age of 47 is to show the world I am still one of the best athletes as well”

STRIKEFORCE in March 2009 signed a multi-year agreement to stage live MMA events on the premium cable television network. Last week, STRIKEFORCE announced that it would make its live, primetime debut on CBS with its “Fedor vs. Rogers” mega-fight that it will co-promote with M-1 Global on Saturday, November 7.

About STRIKEFORCE

STRIKEFORCE (www.strikeforce.com) is a world-class mixed martial arts cage fight promotion which, on Friday, March 10, 2006, made history with its “Shamrock vs. Gracie” event, the first sanctioned mixed martial arts fight card in California state history. The star-studded extravaganza, which pitted legendary champion Frank Shamrock against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Cesar Gracie at San Jose’s HP Pavilion, played host to a sold-out, record crowd of 18,265. Since 1995, STRIKEFORCE has been the exclusive provider of martial arts programming for ESPN and, after 12 years of success as a leading, world championship kickboxing promotion, the company unveiled its mixed martial arts series with “Shamrock vs. Gracie.” In May 2008, West Coast Productions, the parent company of STRIKEFORCE, partnered with Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment (SVS&E), an entity created in 2000 to oversee all business operation aspects of the San Jose Sharks and HP Pavilion at San Jose.

Former Pro Wrestling Referee, Turned Evangelical Minister, Authors Book On Surviving Child Abuse And The Destructive Temptations Of The Pro Wrestling Industry

Source - T.R. Hicks Enterprises, LLC:

San Tan Valley, AZ, September 20, 2009 -- In his life, Tim Hicks has done a lot of things that most people would consider to be out of the ordinary. Most notable, perhaps, is the twenty-five years he spent as a referee, manager and promoter in the professional wrestling field. These days, he has added two new endeavors to his resume – Evangelical Minister and Author.

Recently, Mr. Hicks authored a book entitled “Walking With My Savior: A Personal Testimony.” In the book, he shares the trials and struggles of starting life as an abused child and dealing with the emotional scars that abuse left behind. Mr. Hicks relates stories of poor self-esteem that led to such great loneliness and despair that it almost cost him his life on several occasions. Mr. Hicks thanks his faith and some good friends for the fact that he is alive today.

In the book, he also takes the reader “behind the curtain” in the professional wrestling business and talks about the temptations he faced there – temptations that have killed many of his friends and peers at a very early age - and how his faith helped him to avoid many of the destructive pitfalls.

According to Mr. Hicks, the purpose of the book is to help others to know that it is possible to overcome emotional scars and to develop a positive self-image, no matter the circumstances. Throughout the book, Mr. Hicks shows that God was with him throughout his life, even when he felt he was all alone.

Although the book is not meant to be a true autobiography, it does contain a lot of autobiographical information including some very touching and heart-wrenching stories of Mr. Hicks’ abusive childhood and a peek into the inner workings of the professional wrestling business.

“Walking With My Savior: A Personal Testimony” is available online from www.trhpublishing.com and from www.amazon.com.

About Tim Hicks:

Tim Hicks is 42 years old and is a retired professional wrestling manager, promoter and referee. These days, he is also an ordained evangelical Christian minister and the owner of T.R. Hicks Enterprises, LLC. He currently lives in San Tan Valley, Arizona with his wife Cindy and their son Kevin.

Cole Escovedo Gets An Opponent For November 6

Four-days ago, I provided an updated lineup for the year's last edition of ShoMMA's Challenger series.

At that time, Cole Escovedo was without an opponent.

That is no longer the case, and Escovedo will be facing Anthony Figueroa, in a bantamweight (not featherweight, as I'd mistakenly mentioned) contest.

M-1 GLOBAL OFFICIALS CONFIRM FEDOR EMELIANENKO'S NOV. 7 FIGHT VS. BRETT ROGERS IN THE RETURN OF MMA TO PRIME TIME TELEVISION

Source - M-1 Global:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -

Amsterdam, Holland -- Officials from CBS announced Thursday that the long-awaited United States return of M-1 Global's Fedor Emelianenko will take place on Saturday, Nov. 7 at a venue to be determined.

M-1 Global (www.M-1Global.com) officials can also confirm that Emelianenko will indeed be taking on undefeated 10-0 top-ten ranked heavyweight Brett Rogers in the main event of the first-ever show to be conducted under a three-fight co-promotion agreement between M-1 Global and Strikeforce.

"We are extremely proud to be working with Scott Coker, Strikeforce, CBS, and SHOWTIME, in what we consider to be a true co-promotional relationship," said President and Founding M-1 Global owner Vadim Finkelchtein. "To be able to bring exposure to the M-1 name in front of such a large American viewing audience on national television is a tremendous achievement for M-1 Global."

The Nov. 7 event will mark the first time a Russian-born mixed martial artist has headlined an MMA event on prime time network television in the U.S. And Emelianenko will be making his U.S. debut against a fighter in Rogers who will go down in history along with Jon Murphy as being the first two fighters ever to compete in a MMA contest on prime time television.

"Brett Rogers knocked out Mr. Murphy in just 1:01 of round 1 in his CBS debut in 2008, so we know he will be a very dangerous and prepared opponent," remarked Finkelchtein. "However, we are always looking for new challenges and Brett Rogers presents a great one for Fedor.

"When we looked at the fan polls in the U.S. this past August, the fight American fans wanted to see most for Fedor was Brett Rogers so it is with great pleasure that we are able to work with Strikeforce and CBS in bringing this fight to the American public at no cost."

Emelianenko is known by many media pundits as just not being the the top heavyweight in the world, but also the top pound-for-pound fighter on the planet. Having already built up a strong fanbase in America, it is anticipated that exposure on network television will propel his stardom to new levels. However, the Stary Oskol native's network TV debut will take place against a 6'5'', 265 pound heavyweight who has stopped all of his opponents inside of two rounds.

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for Brett Rogers," said Emelianenko. "He has worked his way from the bottom to the top and his recent win over Andrei Arlovski is very impressive and made him a top-ten heavyweight from the perspective of many people, including me."

Emelianenko is also looking forward to competing on U.S. soil for the first time since his devastating first round knockout victory over Arlovski -- former UFC heavyweight champion -- back in January of this year.

"Of course, after not being able to compete as scheduled in August I am happy for the opportunity to be competing in front of Americans. I have been training hard for this fight and hope to put on a performance that the fans will find satisfactory."

The first-ever co-promotion between M-1 Global and Strikeforce will serve as the first look at Emelianenko for many casual American sports fans. It will be their opportunity to watch the last reigning heavyweight champion of the what was at one time was considered the premier mixed martial arts organization in the world, the Japan-based PRIDE Fighting Championships.

Additionally, Emelianenko also holds the distinction of being the first-ever World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts heavyweight champion and is the proud owner of victories over five former UFC heavyweight champions (Kevin Randleman, Mark Coleman, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Tim Sylvia, and Arlovski).

With an impressive record of 30-1, Emelianenko's lone loss was a controversial defeat suffered in December of 2000 against Tsuyoshi Koshaka. For Emelianenko, the bout against against the former UFC veteran took place in just his fifth-ever fight and was stopped due to a cut from what many considered to be an illegal blow deliver by Koshaka. In the minds of many, Fedor has never truly been defeated.

In addition to his remarkable accomplishment in mixed martial arts, Emelianenko is also a national hero in his home country of Russia. In addition to having served as a member of the Russian Army, he is also a 12-time Russian, European, and World Champion in Combat Sambo, the national martial art of Russia, and also carried the Olympic Torch leading up to the '08 Beijing Games.

Emelianenko also is part-owner with Mr. Finkelchtein of the M-1 Global promotion, a mixed martial arts company that has been in existence for over 10 years and has introduced the sport of MMA to countries all over the world.

M-1 Global currently produces the M-1 Challenge, a year-long, team-based competition featuring 16 teams from all over the world competing for the coveted M-1 Challenge Championship Cup. Referred to by many as the "World Cup of Mixed Martial Arts," one of the 16 teams is Emelianenko's own Team Russian Imperial, which won the 2008 M-1 Challenge Championship Cup in Holland earlier this year.

The M-1 Challenge is televised in over 80 countries and can be seen weekly in the U.S. every Friday at 8 p.m. ET on HDNet. The semifinals of the current season are scheduled to take place Sept. 26 in Rostov, Russia and will feature two teams from the U.S., one from England, as well as one from Russia. The event will be carried live via Internet pay-per-view on both M-1's English language web site www.M-1Global.com and Russian-language site www.Mixfight.ru.

RECORD VIEWERSHIP FOR PREMIERE OF "THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER: HEAVYWEIGHTS" Draws More Young Men Than Anything On Television On Wednesday, September 16 Including "The Jay Leno Show" And "America's Got Talent" Season Finale

NEW YORK, Sept. 17 -- While the ratings for most television series erode over time, "The Ultimate Fighter" on Spike TV continues to defy the norm. Illustrating the ever-growing popularity of the UFC and its stable of stars, the premiere of the tenth season of Spike TV's "The Ultimate Fighter" on Wednesday, September 16 (10:00pm-11:00pm ET/PT) was not only the most watched episode in the series history, but also in network history for an original.*

The series, featuring the best up-and-coming mixed martial arts heavyweights, including YouTube sensation Kimbo Slice, garnered 4.1 million viewers, besting the previous "The Ultimate Fighter" high of 2.8 million viewers for the finale of season three in 2006.

The show debut also garnered 3.2 million Persons 18-49, demonstrating a substantial amount of co-viewing between men and women.

"The intriguing cast of 'The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights' has true mass appeal, and the numbers show that this sport is not just for a niche audience anymore," said Kevin Kay, Spike TV President.

The Spike TV telecast bested all competition on television in the advertiser-coveted demographics of Men 18-34, M18-49, M18-24, M25-34 including the highly-promoted network originals "The Jay Leno Show," "America's Got Talent" season finale, "Glee," "So You Think You Can Dance" and the premiere of "Beautiful Life."

Overall, the record-breaking Spike TV telecast drew a 5.3 rating (1.5 million) in Men 18-34, a 4.3 in M18-49 (2.4 million), a 2.9 household rating and 4.1 million total viewers.

"The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights" features former UFC light heavyweight champions "Suga" Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as coaches and is the only installment in the show's history to include only the heavyweight weight class (206+ lbs). The cast includes a list of notable athletes with impressive and diverse pedigrees including four former NFL players, UFC veterans, a former IFL heavyweight champ, and a highly-publicized former EliteXC fighter, Kimbo Slice, who gained prominence through his non-sanctioned bouts on YouTube.

*previous record for a Spike TV original episode is 3.4 million for "The Joe Schmo Show" season finale in 2003.

Spike TV is available in 98.6 million homes and is a division of MTV Networks. MMA RETURNS TO PRIMETIME ON CBS WITH “STRIKEFORCE: FEDOR VS. ROGERS” LIVE ON SATURDAY, NOV. 7

Fedor, the #1 Ranked MMA Heavyweight in the World, To Be Seen for the First Time by Broadcast Television Audience

The CBS Television Network will return to the mixed martial arts (MMA) cage with STRIKEFORCE: FEDOR VS. ROGERS, to be broadcast Saturday, Nov. 7 (9:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT). SHOWTIME Sports® will produce the four-fight event with host Gus Johnson calling the action and MMA legend Frank Shamrock and Mauro Ranallo serving as color analysts.

In 2008, CBS aired the first live MMA fights on network television, with three successful events earning time period-winning ratings in all key young adult and young men demographics. CBS’s most recent broadcast in October 2008 ranked as the night's highest-rated program on both broadcast and cable in adults 18-34 and men 18-34, topping all other sports programming in those demographics, including the Major League Baseball playoffs and college football.

On Nov. 7, the world’s Number One-ranked MMA heavyweight fighter, Fedor Emelianenko of Russia, will face undefeated American Brett Rogers of Minnesota in the marquee match up. The fight marks the first bout for the highly coveted Emelianenko since his promotional company M-1 Global signed an agreement with STRIKEFORCE to co-promote major events.

"There's no question this is a sport that is fast becoming a force in popularity and as a business," said Kelly Kahl, Senior Executive Vice President, Prime Time, CBS Television. "We're excited to be the platform that will enable millions more to see the athlete regarded as the very best in his sport. The Number One heavyweight on the most-watched network has a very nice ring to it."

Simply referred to as "Fedor" by fans around the world, the 6-foot, 235-pound Russian is one of the most dominant fighters in the sport. He is a master of the Russian military combat system Sambo and boasts a record of 30 wins, one loss, no draws with 16 wins by submission, seven knockouts and seven decisions. The 28-year-old Rogers (10-0) is a massive physical specimen standing 6-feet, 5-inches tall and weighing 265 pounds. He possesses two of the heaviest hands in the sport of MMA, an attribute that has helped him knock out all 10 of his professional opponents.

"It is an honor to have the opportunity to bring the STRIKEFORCE brand to CBS," said Scott Coker, Founder and CEO of STRIKEFORCE. "We are looking forward to bringing MMA back to the network and to having the world’s No. 1 heavyweight—Fedor—compete for the first time on live network television against one of America's most promising young, undefeated stars—Brett Rogers."

STRIKEFORCE has experienced significant growth since it launched its first MMA promotion on March 10, 2006. After signing a landmark deal to air live events on SHOWTIME® earlier this year, STRIKEFORCE earned the premium network its highest MMA rating ever on August 15 with Carano vs. Cyborg. Shortly before the live telecast, the main event principals—Gina Carano and Cris “Cyborg” Santos—were the most searched terms on Yahoo! and Google, while the fight was the most discussed subject on Twitter.

The star-studded extravaganza, which pitted legendary champion Frank Shamrock against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Cesar Gracie at San Jose’s HP Pavilion, played host to a sold out, record crowd of 18,265.

Programming Alert: Linda Hogan (And Whatever Her Young-Ass Boyfriend's Name Is) To Be Featured On Tonight's Edition Of 'Showbiz Tonight'

CNN is billing this as the couple's first on-screen interview, which appears to have more than a small amount of train-wreck potential, and airs at 11 PM ET/PT.

I might just have to tune in.

Mixed-Martial-Arts Returns To CBS!

Not surprisingly, it's Strikeforce, and it'll be their card on Saturday, November 7 (which, as of yet, doesn't have a venue, but will feature a Fedor Ememlianenko-Brett Rogers main event).

Cris Santos, the promotion's sole women's champion, will probably also fight.

Stay tuned.
