NEWS and NOTES

Our message board was hacked on December 29, 2008, and sadly everything was lost. We are in the process of building a new one, with tighter security, and invite former members to please register at the new one, by clicking here. If you have not been a member of our forums previously, we also encourage you to join us. The board is still being designed visually, but posting can take place during this process. Unfortunately, all news and notes were wiped out, as well as detailed information on upcoming events, but we are making every attempt possible to keep moving forward.

World Wrestling Entertainment’s SmackDown crew will be at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ, tonight. Advertised: Matt & Jeff Hardy versus Edge & the Big Show. This will be taped for Friday’s broadcast on MyNetwork TV, as well as the following week’s show.

Click here for a 1999 IWU match at the Masquerade in Atlanta, GA, featuring Terry Lawler versus Murder One, with Todd Wimbleton. David Young and the Notorious DOG also get in on the action. Click here for footage from an ECW taping for TNN in 1999, featuring Sabu and others, but also including M1 and Wimbleton. In 2000, Fox 5 in Atlanta did a feature on ECW, thought it leans more toward what the wrestlers wear than anything else. Steve Corino appears, among others, as does Mary Greer, the s0-called ‘Queen of Lycra’. Click here for the clip. Thanks to Todd Bathje for the footage.

Rampage Pro Wrestling results from Johnny G’s in Warner Robins, GA, on December 28: Oko Nono over Kyle Matthews; A.J. Steele over Rob Adonis and Kodiak in a three-way match; Colt Derringer over Chip Day; Tracy Taylor & Sumie Sakai over Melissa Coates & Genni Wright; and Frankie Valentine, Sal Rinauro & Cru Jones over Micah Taylor, J-Rod & Johnny Gayton, with Ron Simmons.

12/26 NWA Prime Time Report With Jannetty, Swinger, Buchanan And More

Courtesy of Larry Goodman:

Saturday night’s NWA Prime Time Pro Wrestling show drew the largest paid attendance in the company’s brief history in Columbus, Georgia.

210 at the Prime Time Arena saw what may have been the best show the promotion has ever done. It was, beyond question, the bloodiest, and it certainly had the hottest crowd.

The show was headlined by twin cage matches, one with a hangman’s noose stipulation, the other for the heavyweight title. All four men involved bled, most notably Bulldog Raines, whose forehead was like a fountain.

There were issues with the presentation of the main events, but they seemed minor in the overall scheme of things. Great heat can disguise a multitude of sins.

It was also the smoothest running, best paced Prime Time event I’ve attended.

(1) Big Nasty beat Young Tiger in 3:13. Awesome finish. Too bad it was preceded by such a lousy match. Badass black guy destroys tiny masked black guy. Tiny guy was having a rough night. Badass guy was very green. But they did nail the finish. Nasty reversed Tiger’s dragonrana with a sitout powerbomb.

The debuting Exotic Ones came out looking extremely gay. Underneath the psychedelic wigs and face paint were Simon Sermon, Thomas Britain and Rick Michaels, much to the dismay of promoter Billy Roper, who though he was rid of Sermon and Britain when their contracts expired. Sermon teased kissing Roper.

(2) Bull Buchanan beat The Exotic Ones (Rick Michaels & Simon Sermon & Thomas Britian) via count out in 8:55. There was a big Asian dude dressed like a medieval Samurai warrior. I kept expected him to get involved. Exotic Ones stalled. Britain played the Buddy Roberts role of taking the beating for the other Freebirds. Michaels clipped Buchanan’s knee to start the heat. Sermon took the Flair slam off the top and it was time to feed the monster. After taking a lariat from Bull, Sermon was pulled out the ring, and the Exotics took the ten count. Buchanan looked invincible against three guys. It was a great way to strengthen the Prime Time side in the main angle with the GCW invaders.

(3) Micah Taylor & Tracy Taylor beat Josh Stone & Genni Wright (with Colt Derringer) in 12:30. Roper introed the Micah and Tracy as the only husband and wife tag team in the NWA. This match had the best heat all night. The Taylors are way over, especially with the kids. I mean this act actually sells tickets. The Taylors dominated. The main thing was Tracy getting the best of Stone, while Wright wanted no part of Micah. Wright was still bad, but it’s a lot easier to hide her terribleness in a tag. The heels took advantage of Tracy’s temper to beat up on Micah. They built it to a textbook hot tag. Taylor cleaned Wright’s clock with forearm shots and had her pinned with a swinging neckbreaker. Stone interfered. They went four-way. Tracy went for a sunset flip on Stone, and Wright hooked his hands to block it. Micah shoved Wright into Stone, who was pinned (illegally) by Tracy.

Roper announced that the Marty Jannetty/Travis Sawyer rematch would not be taking place due to the injury Jannetty suffered last week. Roper explained that Jannetty injured his leg on a dive over the top rope. Jannetty came out on one crutch to address the crowd. Jannetty said the truth was that Sawyer attacked him in the parking lot after last week’s show and messed up his leg. Sawyer came out with his loudmouth manager, Tony Lucassio. While Sawyer was getting in Jannetty’s face, Lucassio gave him a cheap shot from behind. They attacked Jannetty, ripping the bandages off his knee. Deathrow made the save. He did one spot with Sawyer, and the heels bailed. Deathrow cut a robotic promo. He said Jannetty was the toughest guy he ever faced, and Sawyer would have to come through him. Deathrow challenged them to a tag match next week. Lucassio told Sasquatch to calm down. He said wrestling wasn’t in his NWA contract, but he had an idea. Out came Mr. Hughes looking positively skinny. Jannetty and Hughes went back and forth talking about their history in WWE. Jannetty told Hughes that Deathrow was the badder ass of the two. Hughes vowed to put both of them out with the sidewalk slam. Jannetty said he had Deathrow were bonded in blood. Good stuff, although longer than it needed to be for maximum impact. I can’t see Jannetty doing much next week. His knee legitimately looked like hell- an ugly swollen mass of flesh.

(4) Johnny Swinger & Zero Tolerance beat David Young & Chris Stevens in 12:38. Swinger blamed referee Rob Russo costing them the tag titles and said Roper was at the helm of the conspiracy. Swinger told Russo to get lost, because he had brought in a suitable official from “across the river.” Swinger dragged some guy named Jeremy Black into the ring and put a t-shirt on him that had “GCW Ref” scrawled on it with Sharpie. This match also had great heat, as the fans wanted the faces to kill the fake ref for not doing his job. Young and Stevens beat up on Swinger. Young was the babyface-in-peril. Zero dropped an elbow that liked to have caved in Young’s chest, and Stevens had to make a save. For the second match in a row, they pulled off a hot tag that was truly hot. Stevens cleared the ring, with Zero selling his punches like a bobble head doll. Young bowled the heels over with a flip dive. Stevens grabbed the ref for some comeuppance, but Swinger cut him off with a low blow and the ref made the three count. I thought this match worked just fine to sustain the momentum on the GCW/Prime Time angle. It’s an encouraging sign that they drew their best crowd, while still being able to save the big stuff for later.

(5) Bulldog Raines beat Colt Derringer in a Hangman’s Noose in a Cage match (12-13 minutes. Tops my list as the goriest live match of 2008. And it made sense, at least as much as unbridled violence on a colossal scale can. Raines beat Derringer clean in a bullrope match at Thanksgiving, only to have Colt hang him afterwards. They continued to get in each other’s business. There were nooses hanging from all four corners of the cage. The only way to win was to get the noose around the other guy’s neck. Derringer bled first. Derringer used a low blow to set up a hanging, but Bulldog fought it off. After Derringer missed a huge top rope leg drop, Bulldog speared him. That brought Stone and Wright to ringside. With Stone provided the distraction, Wright gave Derringer his bullrope. Micah ran out to chase Stone to the back. Derringer clocked Raines with the cowbell. Raines bled buckets – a full crimson mask with blood covering his body all the way down to his tights. We’re talking epic blood loss. Raines tossed Derringer off the top rope and made a useless cover, as he clearly wasn’t thinking straight. They did a sadistic spot where Derringer tied Raines’ hands up in a noose rendering him defenseless and beat on his bloody head. Finish saw Raines hit his Blue Thunder Bomb and hang Derringer with his own bullrope.

Post-match, Raines pounded on Derringer’s head until he was out cold. Raines staggered to the back with blood still streaming out of his forehead. Derringer was so out of it that he slid down the ringsteps on his belly. For a grueling, violent, dramatic blow off match, this was everything it needed to be.

(6) Iceberg beat Deathrow in a cage match to retain the PTPW Heavyweight Title in 19:56. The handling of this program left something to be desired. It was a solid idea: a tag team of monsters that couldn’t get along. The Anarchy monster cheated to take the title from the Prime Time monster, but it seemed awfully quick to put them in a cage. The fans had no clear favorite going in since Deathrow’s turn didn’t take place until earlier on the show. Be that as it may, I didn’t expect a 20 minute match involving Deathrow to be this good. They didn’t wait for the bell. This wasn’t going to be pretty. Deathrow tried to hang Iceberg with one of the nooses. It was a great looking spot with Iceberg lapsing into unconsciousness as he teetered on the ropes. Problem was Deathrow had the champion in the noose no time, when Raines had just been through 12 minutes of near death to accomplish the same thing. It looked like a prime time for Deathrow to escape, but he removed the noose to dish out more punishment. Iceberg bled heavily after taking a shot into the cage. Deathrow nailed Iceberg with a stiff high boot for a near fall. Iceberg missed with a 450 pound swanton bomb, but his freight train corner splash connected. Deathrow bled, although not as much as the other guys. Iceberg hit a diving headbutt to the groinular region. Deathrow hit a superplex. Berg blocked Deathrow’s choke slam finisher. Deathrow rolled out from under Iceberg’s Ground Zero splash. Deathrow got a close near fall with a Samoan drop. Iceberg gave Deathrow a Samoan drop into the cage. Deathrow hit the chokeslam and tried to win via escape, but Sawyer was there to slam the cage door on his head. Iceberg covered for the pin. As good as it was, there was an element of overkill after the last match. Under most circumstances, you would want to put the heavyweight title match on last. In this case, the hangman's noose felt like the bigger of the two matches and would have sent the fans home on a high note.

NOTES: Last night’s show will be available on DVD…Prime Time returns on January 2 with Jannetty & Deathrow vs. Sawyer & Hughes (with Lucassio), the start of the tag team title tournament and a midget match…In the house were “Nightmare” Ted Allen, former PTPW security guy par excellence Jimbo, and Jimmy Oxendine (formely with GWP).

CLEARWATER, FL, December 22, 2008 - Valencia Entertainment, Inc., a subsidiary of ValCom, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: VLCO), (FRANKFURT: VAM), a Media Entertainment Company, is pleased to announce the signing of a three-year license distribution deal with the Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC) Mixed Martial Arts promotion.

The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a billion dollar industry and is the fastest growing sports in America; the Southeastern-based XFC is the largest, most successful MMA promotion currently without a national television presence. ValCom's distribution arm, Valencia Entertainment, will produce 13 XFC hour-long TV episodes from preexisting content, and will develop high-end future programming from upcoming XFC events. These episodes will be disbursed worldwide to broadcast, cable, all sources of media, and home entertainment. In addition to viewer distribution, Valencia Entertainment also plans to market XFC packages and programming worldwide.

"The growing billion dollar industry of martial arts fighting combined with broad demographic viewers makes this XFC deal very valuable. We will be reproducing the previous 13 episodes as well as future episodes with a three-year contract. This deal could prove to be invaluable," said Vince Vellardita, President & CEO of ValCom, Inc. XFC draws the biggest crowds in the sport this side of UFC, and is dedicated to launching the careers of the next generation of MMA superstars. Today, XFC viewers consist of all age groups, especially males 18 to 34 years of age. "With heart-thumping action and adrenaline-charged cage fighting between the dedicated warriors of XFC, we provide a platform for the champions of tomorrow to showcase their talents and develop into legends," said XFC president John Prisco. "We're delighted to be affiliated with ValCom and look forward to growing MMA to even greater heights because this sport is just 15-years-old and hasn't even come close yet to reaching its full potential."

"MMA programming that's currently on cable television and has out-performed more established sports like MLB, NBA, NHL, NASCAR, boxing and even the NFL amongst 18- to 34-year-old men on their respective cable homes," said Vince Vellardita, President & CEO of ValCom, Inc. "XFC's unique brand positioning as the ultimate proving grounds for the champions of tomorrow is a perfect fit for this worldwide sports phenomenon, and we expect this partnership to be lucrative and successful for all parties." MMA is a full-contact, one-on-one combat sport that showcases an array of boxing, wrestling and martial arts disciplines within a structured body of rules and regulations. MMA competitors are paired in accordance to weight and skill level, with each bout subject to stringent oversight by state-appointed governing bodies. Originally promoted as a no-holds-barred, anything-goes fighting competition, MMA adopted a series of rule changes in the mid-1990s, allowing the sport to win widespread popularity and earn mainstream public acceptance, and MMA is the fighting sport of choice for a new generation of fight fans.

12/20 NWA Anarchy "Season's Beatings '08" Report

Courtesy of Larry Goodman:

Season’s Beatings was as good as any show in Cornelia this year with the exception of Hardcore Hell. The quality of the wrestling was better than at Fright Night. Every wrestler on the show busted ass. And the stories have jelled considerably since then. For emotion and drama, you couldn't have asked for more than the twin main events delivered. Top to bottom, it was the best of the four annual Christmas spectaculars NWA Anarchy has done.

But this has been a different type of holiday season, the result being a crowd of 150, the lowest attendance ever for a major show in Cornelia. Georgia’s woeful economic condition has whittled the crowd down to the hardcores willing and able to part with $20. Try as they might, there was no way to produce the heat and electricity of a packed house. It certainly wasn’t the fault of the pacing – the sequence of matches peaked the crowd at all the right times and the show was done in less than 3 hours. The lone intermission was the break to set up the cage.

NWA Anarchy owner Jerry Palmer introduced an emotional Shadow Jackson for an update on the condition of his newborn son. Jackson said the good news was his son was 100% better because of the fans’ prayers. Jackson dedicated his match to his son and the Anarchy fans, who responded with a “we love you, Shadow” chant.

Next up was a special “Season’s Beating” video courtesy of Executive Producer Kevin Marx.

(1) Hayden Young beat Adrian Hawkins to become the number one contender for the Young Lion’s Title in 7 minutes. The crowd took a wait-and-see approach. None of that Pavlovian first match heat. Young came out flying. Hawkins took over after instigating a nasty bump off the top for Young. Cool lead into the double down spot with Young causing Hawkins to miss a springboard back elbow and then connecting with a springboard enzuigiri. Young got a near fall with a back cover, which always strikes me as more a of heel move. Young hit the Snap Driver, and Hawkins got a foot over the ropes. Hawkins his spinning Liger Bomb, but Young blocked Hawkins’ new finisher and got the pin with the Flying Squirrel. We were off to a solid start. They've made all the right moves with the booking of Young's return.

(2) Wild Bunch (Billy Buck & Chris King) beat Technicians (Bobby Moore & Tyler Smith) in a Texas Tornado match (9:10). A really good match that was one edit away from being outstanding. Technicians showed Anderson-like psychology. Smith did a number on Buck’s shoulder to take him out of the match. Technicians doubled up on King. Buck finally clawed his way back and ran wild for a bit. King tried to use Buck’s back as a springboard, but Moore speared him midair. That spot looked killer. Wild Bunch got Technicians in a double submission. Crowd was going nuts for the tap out. Technicians somehow escaped. There was an extra near fall here that took the edge off the heat. Finish was nice. King leapfrogged another spear attempt by Moore, who then ate Buck’s superkick. This was a match where nobody really lost, as both teams emerged stronger than they were going in.

On the WrestleVision screen, we saw Melissa Coates fretting about Jerry Palmer missing their prematch rendevous. A person sight unseen dumped a bucket of water on her head. Coates was fuming and assumed it was Palmer’s doing.

(3) Brodie Chase beat NWA Anarchy owner Jerry Palmer (with Melissa Coates) in 1:35. Palmer came out asking “Where’s Melissa?” Coates came out humiliated and pissed off. They had words. Palmer pleaded innocence. Palmer was clearly disturbed as the match got underway. He didn’t even get a chance to remove his ring jacket off. Coates slugged Palmer. Oh yea of little faith. Chase pinned Palmer after a DDT. Coates walked off on her own. To be continued.

(4) New Wave (Steven Walters & Derrick Driver) beat Dynamic Duo (Chad Parham & Seth Delay) and Talent & Money (JT Talent & Drew Pendleton III) and Jeremy Vain & Rob Adonis in a ladder match to retain the NWA Anarchy tag titles in 17:57. A shameless spotfest – two 6 foot ladders, two 8 foot ladders, one 10 and one 12. The belts suspended from the ceiling could easily be reached with a 6 or and 8 footer, so the others were there with some other purpose in mind. An inherent problem with ladder matches are those times when it looks like somebody could get the belts if they really tried. This match had its share of them. New Wave is back to being way over. Dynamic Duo and Talent & Money have their fair share of fan support. Vain & Adonis were the only full blown heels. All eight guys were going at it. The stuff between Parham and Talent stood out. They need to put them in a singles. The first big spot saw Talent dive from the ladder over the top rope onto five guys when he was upended trying to climb for the belts. Dynamic Duo both tried to climb and were knocked off a ladder by New Wave’s somewhat mistimed stereo missile dropkicks. Walters ran up a ladder, using the stacked bodies of T & M as a stepping stone, and brought Vain off the top with a monkey flip. Driver got one hand on the belts but Vain cut him off. Vain ran up a ladder to hit the VKO on Pendleton, but Talent hit the Talent Enhancement off the ladder on Vain. Adonis is big man to be doing this ladder s***, and he’s hurtin’ for certain from the bumps he took here. New Wave nailed him with a double springboard ladder shot. Delay tried to climb and got hiptossed over the top of the ladder by Walters. Pendleton brought Walters off the ladder with a side effect. At ringside, they formed a scaffold by bridging an 8 foot ladder from the top of the 10 foot ladder to the rungs of the 12 foot ladder. This was completely illogical in the context of the match (there was no way to get from the scaffold to the belts), but pretty damn unique as a platform for crazy spots. Pendleton took a bump off the makeshift scaffold into the ring (the scaffold was about 2 feet higher than the top rope). Driver did a moonsault off the scaffold onto Pendleton for his half of New Wave’s Unskinny Bop finisher. They didn’t hit it clean, but given the degree of difficulty it was a victory that nobody got killed. New Wave got the belts with Adonis and Vain nipping at their heels. As Anarchy ladder matches go, this one will be remembered more for the uniqueness of the scaffold spots than the overall quality of the match.

(5) Azrael (with The Reverend) beat Slim J to win the Young Lion’s Championship in 10:12. Match of the night. It had the best wrestling and the best sustained heat. They know each other well, so all the counter moves made total sense. Having had the pleasure of seeing these guys square off in this building on countless occasions, to me, this was the best of any of their encounters. In typical fashion, J opened with a punishing side headlock and started working on Azrael’s neck. Azrael hit a sick spinning implant neckbreaker to take over. When J tried for a moonsault, Azrael picked him out of midair with an Ace crusher. Azrael zeroed in on J’s neck. Both men were injured when Azrael landed on J’s leg. Azrael’s ribs took a beating from J’s leg, and J’s ankle was messed up. The gutted it out. A roundhouse kick to the temple sent Azrael down for a two count. J hit the Screwdriver on the Rocks for another near fall. Azrael dropped J on his head with a brainbuster. J hit the flying inverted DDT for a close near fall. Azrael blocked the Detox Driver and hit the Ted Bundy but J miraculously kicked out. Azrael then hit a vicious cutthroat piledriver to pin J clean in the middle. It’s about time Azrael got a push as a singles wrestler. It’s no problem for J to lose, as he’s utterly bullet proof at this point.

With the crowd still applauding J for his efforts, he was jumped by Todd Sexton. This had awesome heat with the Bleacher Bums chanting “Thank you, Todd,” and the rest of the crowd being completely disgusted. Sexton nailed J with a very Ortonesque running knee. The ref brigade came out to force Sexton out of the ring. J was carried to the back unconscious.

(6) The NWA Anarchy TV Title match between champion Truitt Fields and Shaun Tempers ended as a 10 minute draw. They had brutally tough act to follow. Smartly, they went in another direction. Tempers is pure babyface now. He looked like was auditioning for the Power Rangers in the blue and white gear. They traded holds until Tempers knee went out. Fields offered to call off the match. Tempers insisted he was OK. Fields work over the injured knee. The Reverend came to ringside just in time for Tempers’ comeback. Fields kicked out of the Temperpedic. Tempers blocked the Killing Fields. Tempers got a near fall with a backdrop driver just before the time limit expired.

Tempers put the belt on Fields’ shoulder. He said Fields was a man of his word and it was an honor to face him again. The Reverend gagged at the sight of it.

(7) Shadow Jackson beat Iceberg (with The Reverend) and Mikal Adryan to win the NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Title by pinning champion Iceberg at 13:13. “Shadowmania” chants abounding as usual. Why is Mikal Adryan still in Cornelia? What are TNA and WWE looking for if not a guy that stands 6-8, 265 and can wrestle? However, Iceberg was the standout performer on this night. Jackson and Adryan attacked Iceberg. Iceberg’s frustrations mounted as he repeatedly took huge bumps trying to get back into the match. Judas and Jackson broke up each others pin attempts. When Judas hit a fallaway slam on Jackson, Iceberg pounced on Judas with an elbow drop. It was pretty much a three-way free for all from there to the finish. While Iceberg and Judas are both willing bump takers, Jackson’s offense doesn’t look all that devastating against such huge men. Jackson gave Iceberg a basement dropkick to the scrotissimus region. Judas used a double noggin knocker, but that just woke Jackson up. He hiptossed Iceberg onto Judas, then powerslammed Iceberg. Iceberg kicked out of the one arm cover. Seeing Judas preparing to choke slam Iceberg, the Reverend jumped up onto the apron. Jackson clocked the Rev and Judas hit the choke slam on Iceberg, but Jackson jumped into the ring to break up the pin. Jackson mounted the ropes for the 10 punches of doom on Iceberg. Judas hooked Jackson’s arms and sent Jackson flying across the ring with El Crucifijo As Judas covered, he was squashed by Iceberg’s Ground Zero splash. Jackson pinned Iceberg with the 1031 and got the monster pop. As much as I despise switching a singles title in a three-way, it was probably the best way to do this one.

Postmatch: Jackson was confronted by Judas. Jackson put up his dukes. Judas put the title belt on Jackson’s shoulders and slid out of the ring, leaving “The People’s Champion” to share the special moment with his fans.

(8) Ace Rockwell beat Kimo (with Jeff G. Bailey) in a cage match in 9:40. The match could be won by pinfall, submission or escape. I can’t recall another cage match in Cornelia that allowed winning via escape. The cage has usually been employed to prevent outside interference and/or keep the heel from running, neither of which applied here. In this case, the monster’s manager requested the cage in order to destroy the babyface, and the babyface owner inserted the escape stipulation to level the playing field. Much to the delight of the crowd, Wes Grissom returned from a being beaten bloody by Kimo as the referee inside the cage. Rockwell attacked Kimo before he could remove his mask. He went for broke with the Aces High, but Kimo kicked out at one. Rockwell hit the Codebreaker and tried to exit through the door. The outside ref, Jacob Ashworth got bumped and Bailey slammed the cage door on Rockwell’s head. Ashworth was helped to the back, so Bailey had control of the cage door. Rockwell was bleeding from the forehead. Kimo unleashed his martial arts attack on Rockwell. Bailey was loving it. The crowd was chanting their hearts out for Ace. Kimo chucked Rockwell face first into the cage. Kimo destroyed Rockwell with a barrage of rapid fire blows in the corner. Bailey issued instructions to “The Butcher of Pyongyang” in Korean. Rockwell delivered a series of three low blows. Kimo may be indestructible but those balls aren’t made out of steel. Rockwell hit the Aces High. Kimo got up from it. Rockwell charged at Kimo, who boosted him overhead with Rockwell landing on the top turnbuckle. Rockwell skinned the cat to the outside of the cage. Kimo was going wild trying to get at him, but there was no way. It was a matter of Rockwell finding a way to drop to the floor without breaking his neck. Great drama. Terrific finish. It was one of the most believable escape finishes I’ve seen, because Rockwell’s skin the cat was legitimately quick enough to evade Kimo. And Kimo was able to maintain the aura of invincibility despite losing.

NOTES: Jackson said he expects his son to be out of the hospital within a week…Tank was visiting backstage. He's taking a break from pro wrestling to enjoy home life. WWE's 'Tribute To The Troops' - Some Early Viewership Info

I'm still waiting on ratings numbers, but according to Nielsen Media Research's preliminary data, last night's program drew a total of roughly three-point-four-million viewers, placing it solidly in fourth-place for the evening (although, of course, this special was about much more than those things).

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 27
LIVE FROM THE MGM GRAND – LAS VEGAS, NV

Las Vegas, NV (USA) – The Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) organization is proud to confirm the remaining bouts on the historic final card of the year – UFC 92: THE ULTIMATE 2008, live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, December 27, 2008. The already stacked fight card is rounded out with a brilliant batch of exciting mixed martial artists.

It’s a matchup between two highly-touted middleweight newcomers as New Jersey’s Mike Massenzio (6’2”/185 lbs., fighting out of Paterson, N.J.) meets The Ultimate Fighter® Season 7 finalist CB Dollaway (6’2”/185 lbs., fighting out of Tempe, Ariz.). This will not be the first time these two have met in competition. Dollaway, a former NCAA Division I wrestler and Ohio-born fighter, defeated the Teaneck native at the Junior college wrestling nationals.

If Lebanon-born fighter Mostapha Al Turk (6’2”/242 lbs., fighting out of London, England) is to win his UFC debut it will have to come against a brand name in the heavyweight division. Cheick Kongo (6’4”/240 lbs., fighting out of Paris, France) looks to improve his UFC record to 5-2 when he faces the 35-year-old heavyweight.

A very well respected ground fighter, Dean Lister (6’1”/185 lbs., fighting out of San Diego, Calif.) owns UFC submission victories over Alessio Sakara and grappling wiz Jeremy Horn; but the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt will have to excel in all areas if he is to beat perpetual contender Yushin Okami (6’2”/185 lbs., fighting out of Kanagawa, Japan), who holds a 6-1 UFC record with one loss coming against former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin.

For an exciting match in the heavyweight division, look no further than Weesp, Holland’s Antoni Hardonk (6’4”/245 lbs., fighting out of Amsterdam and Los Angeles, Calif.). The Dutch kickboxing specialist is on a two-fight win streak with devastating stoppages over Colin Robinson and Eddie Sanchez. But now the 32-year-old turns his attention to Celina, Ohio’s Mike Wessel (6’0”/260 lbs., fighting out of Little Rock, Ark.). A former assistant strength and conditioning coach for the University of Arkansas, Wessel has won eight of his first nine professional bouts.

Looking to rebound from a loss to Franklin at UFC 88, Loveland, Ohio’s Matt Hamill (6’1”/205 lbs., fighting out of Utica, N.Y.) will put his top tier wrestling ability and improved striking up against former three-time NCAA Division I wrestler and Minot, North Dakota native Reese Andy (5’10”/205 lbs., fighting out of Renton, Wa.).

One of the few men to ever beat current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, welterweight Ryo Chonan (5’9”/170 lbs., fighting out of Yamagata City, Japan) always looks to dazzle the crowd. Chonan is coming off a split decision victory against Roan Carneiro and will try to extend the win streak to two when he faces Los Angeles, California’s Brad Blackburn (5’10”/170 lbs., fighting out of Olympia, Wa.), who earned a second-round TKO in his UFC debut.

It’s a matchup between two decorated kickboxers as Pat Barry (5’11”/235 lbs, fighting out of Milwaukee, Wis.) faces Dan Evensen (6’3”/250 lbs., fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev.). Originally from Norway, the 10-3 Evensen will look to put the first blemish on the New Orleans fighter’s 3-0 record.

Tickets for UFC 92: THE ULTIMATE 2008 are still on sale and will be available at the MGM Grand Garden Arena Box Office, all Ticketmaster Ticket Centers, Charge-By-Phone at (702) 474-4000 or online at ticketmaster.com.
