NEWS

We received the following message regarding the status of Krissa Timbs, injured in an automobile accident on November 23: “Krissa is recovering nicely from her surgery to repair damage to her colon and stomach. Her current list of injuries are a broken right shoulder which will require surgery and a broken left arm which will also require surgery. These surgeries are being postponed until the infection from the colon and stomach surgery has been healed. She has a long way to go but is making great improvements. Juanita wanted to thank everyone for their prayers.”

GCW Heavyweight Champion Bull Buchanan will be in Japan for several more weeks. Thug Rowe missed the 11/24 show due to a non-wrestling schedule conflict. GCW hopes to expand their television show to an hour in the near future. Diane Hewes said GCW plans to join NWA Anarchy in circulating petitions to protest the regulations being proposed by the Georgia Entertainment and Athletic Commission. The GAEC has scheduled a public hearing in Atlanta on December 18. The regs are set to go into effect on January 7. If they go into effect as written, it could spell the end to independent pro wrestling in Georgia.

World Wrestling Entertainment results from Augusta, GA, on 11/24: Hardcore Holly over Carlito; Brian Kendrick & Paul London over WWE World Tag Team Champions Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch by disqualification in a title match; Snitsky over Jim Duggan; Mickie James & Maria over Melina & Jillian Hall; Mr. Kennedy over Cody Rhodes; Randy Orton over Jeff Hardy to retain the WWE Heavyweight Title; and Triple H over Umaga in a cage match. It was reported that 3,000 were in attendance for this card.

NOSTALGIA

1949: Lou Thesz defeated Hans Kaempfer to retain the NWA World Heavyweight Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Thesz had been the reigning champion since he defeated Bill Longson in Indianapolis, IN, on July 20, 1948. This version was the one recognized by the National Boxing Association as the National Wrestling Association. This was the original date that had been set for a title unification match between Thesz and the National Wrestling Alliance World Heavyweight Champion Orville Brown, to take place in St. Louis, MO. However, Brown was injured in an automobile accident on November 1, 1949, and the match had to be cancelled. Also, Dan O’Connor defeated Don McIntyre to win the Southern Heavyweight Title. McIntyre had been the reigning champion since he defeated the Black Menace on September 23, 1949, in Atlanta.

1955: Freddie Blassie defeated Red McIntyre to win the Southern Heavyweight Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. McIntyre had been the reigning Southern Heavyweight Champion since he defeated Blassie on October 28, 1955, in Atlanta. Also, Andre Drapp & Tex Riley defeated Whitey Whittler & El Toro by disqualification. During the match, Drapp removed Toro’s mask to identify him as Bibber McCoy. This had been done earlier in the year, and presumably everyone remembered McCoy was under the mask.

1960: Tiny Evans & Chief Little Eagle defeated Freddie Blassie & Johnny Weaver in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.

1963: Joe Scarpa & Chief Little Eagle defeated the Outlaw & the Mighty Hercules in the main event at the William Bell Auditorium in Augusta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Steve Manderson.

1965: Mike Paidousis defeated Dale Lewis in the main event in Albany for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward. It is unclear as to what venue was the site of this card.

1965: Bob Boyer & Dutch Savage defeated Roger Kirby & Bob Dalton in the main event in Gainesville for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. It is unclear as to what venue was the site of this card.

1966: Enrique & Ramon Torres defeated the Red Raiders (Billy Garrett & Dick Dunn) to retain the Southern Tag Team Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. There were two referees for the match. The Torres’ had vowed to leave if they lost the match, and the Raiders had vowed to unmask if they lost. The Torres’ had been the reigning champions since they defeated Louie Tillet & Butcher Vachon on November 16, 1966, in Columbus.

1972: With the departure of “Georgia Championship Wrestling” host Ed Capral upon his defection to the All-South Wrestling Alliance, Sterling Brewer replaced him in the interim beginning with the episode that appeared on this date. Brewer was also the host of the Birmingham, AL, show under Nick Gulas’ promotion.

1975: Dick Slater defeated Harley Race to retain the Macon Heavyweight Title at the Macon Coliseum for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward. Slater had been the reigning champion since he defeated Bob Armstrong on June 19, 1975, in Macon. Also, Bobo Brazil & Mr. Wrestling #2 defeated Abdullah the Butcher & the Spoiler, managed by Gary Hart, in the semi-main event.

1976: Ole & Gene Anderson defeated Mr. Wrestling #1 & #2 to retain the World Tag Team Title at the Omni Auditorium in Atlanta on Thanksgiving Day for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. The Andersons had been the reigning champions since they defeated Dino Bravo & Mr. Wrestling #1 on June 28, 1976, in Greenville, SC. Also, Thunderbolt Patterson defeated Georgia Heavyweight Champion Dick Slater by countout in a title match. Ox Baker & the Mongolian Stomper, managed by J.J. Dillon, defeated Bill Watts & Bob Armstrong, and the Sheik, managed by Eddie Creatchman, defeated the Mighty Igor by countout.

1982: The Moondogs, managed by Sonny King, defeated Tommy & Johnny Rich in the $30,000 annual tag team tournament at the Omni Auditorium in Atlanta on Thanksgiving Day for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Other teams in the tournament were Les Thornton & Billy Red Eagle, Brad Armstrong & Tito Santana, Hiro Matsuda & Yoshiaki Yatsu, Korstia Korchenko & the Iron Sheik (managed by King), the Wild Samoans (also managed by King), and the Great Kabuki & the Magic Dragon (managed by Gary Hart).
