Georgia Wrestling Promotions will be in Woodstock, GA, tonight at the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency Building, with a bell time of 8:00 PM. Tickets are $15.00 for this show, but if you bring an unopened package containing a toy for the Toys for Tots drive, you get $3.00 off at the door. Call (770) 296-5290 for more info. NOSTALGIA

1921: Joe Stecher defeated Harry Stevens in two straight falls in less than one hour in the main event in Macon for the Al Sihab Shriners. It is unclear as to what venue was the site of this card.

1927: Paul Jones defeated Scotty McDougal in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter John Contos. During the match, police entered the ring and arrested McDougal for unknown reasons. As a result, Contos suspended McDougal from wrestling here for thirty days. Also, May Stein defeated Teddy Meyers to retain the Women’s Title. The origin of this title is unclear to us at this time.

1928: Paul Harper defeated Jack Humberto in two straight falls in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter John Contos. The winner of the match between was to receive a match with Jim Londos, but the card featuring that match never materialized, perhaps due to a reported low attendance at this card.

1934: Glenn Cowan and Sammy Miller wrestled to a draw in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for promoter Jason Thompson.

1936: Petro Rossi defeated Sammy Miller in the main event at the Spring Street Arena in Atlanta for promoter Frank Bettis.

1945: Leo Numa defeated Ben Bennicasa by disqualification in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.

1951: Al Massey defeated Babe Zaharias in five rounds of a main event boxing match at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Also, Art Nelson defeated Juan Hernandez to win a one-night tournament that also included Zaharias, Eddie Gossett (Eddie Graham), Sheik Ben Ali, Nick Carter, and Jack Dillon. It is unclear as to the reason for this tournament, but it may have been to set up the contender for a title match that occurred on December 21, 1951, with Nelson facing the champion.

1956: Red McIntyre & Chief Big Heart defeated Fred Atkins & Ike Eakins to win the International Tag Team Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Atkins & Eakins had been billed as champions since October 12, 1956. There was also a main event title match between Southern Heavyweight Champion Bobby Weaver (Arnold Skaaland) and Jerry Graham, but no results were reported after the card. Weaver had been the reigning champion since he defeated Freddie Blassie on November 23, 1956, in Atlanta.

1960: Chief Little Eagle defeated Roy Nelson, managed by ‘Sir’ Reginald Gable, in an Indian thong match at the Columbus Sports Arena for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward. Also, Joe Harrison defeated Negro Men’s Southern Heavyweight Champion Willie Love by disqualification in a title match. Love had been billed as champion since October 2, 1959. Because of the disqualification, Love retained the title.

1962: Ray Gunkel defeated Dick the Bruiser by disqualification in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Don McIntyre.

1964: Rocky Smith & Pepe Gomez defeated the Mysterious Medics in the main event at the William Bell Auditorium in Augusta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Steve Manderson.

1965: Don Carson defeated Billy Hines by disqualification to retain the US Junior Heavyweight Title at the Macon City Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward. Carson had been billed as champion since November 30, 1965.

1971: Bill Dromo & Bob Armstrong defeated the Assassins by disqualification to retain the Macon Tag Team Title at the Macon Coliseum for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward. Dromo & Armstrong had been the reigning champions since they defeated Buddy Colt & Big John on November 16, 1971, in Macon.

1973: Robert Fuller & the Sheik defeated Bill Watts & Luke Graham by disqualification in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.

1976: Bill Dromo defeated Georgia Heavyweight Champion Dick Slater by disqualification at the Macon Coliseum for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward. Slater had been the reigning champion since he defeated Mr. Wrestling #2 on November 15, 1976, in Augusta. Because of the disqualification, Slater retained the title.

1979: The Masked Superstar defeated Tommy Rich to win the Georgia Heavyweight Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Rich had been the reigning champion since he defeated Killer Karl Kox on October 26, 1979, in Atlanta. Also, Ivan Koloff & Alexis Smirnoff defeated Ole Anderson & Jerry Brisco to win the Georgia Tag Team Title. Brisco actually had held the title with brother Jack, who gave Anderson permission to defend the title on his behalf, as he was busy defeating Austin Idol. The Briscos had been the reigning champions since they defeated Idol & the Superstar on November 30, 1979, in Atlanta. Ray Candy defeated Killer Karl Kox to retain the Georgia Television Title. Candy had been the reigning champion since he defeated Kox on November 30, 1979, in Atlanta.
