After a controversial ending to last week’s event, Florida Championship Wrestling returned to Bourbon St. Night Club, 4331 US 19N in New Port Richey for its February 5, 2008 event. Wrestling legends Mike Graham and Carlos Colon were in attendance. “The Natural” Nic Nemeth & “The Campus Legend” Brad Allen defeated Brandon Groom & Tommy Taylor; Jake of the Gymini defeated Sheamus via DQ; In the mini-tournament to face Morrison/Miz, “The Puerto Rican Nightmare” Eric Perez & Eddie Colon defeated Gabe Tuft & “the Thoroughbred” Johnny Curtis; In the mini-tournament to face Morrison/Miz, “Handsome” Heath Miller & Steve Lewington defeated Bryan Kelly & Rycklon; In a Diva’s grudge match, Nattie Neidhart defeated Victoria Crawford; Mighty Mikey defeated Big Rob (w/ “the Natural” Nic Nemeth); “Stamped Kid” TJ Wilson defeated “Thee Superstar” Chris Gray; and Ted DiBiase Jr. won a 6 man, 4 corner elimination match defeating Jake Hagar, “Carnival Freak” Sinn Bowdee, “South City Thriller” Hade Vansen, Afa Jr. and 7 FT Giant Titan (w/Mosca). Results from the All-Star Wrestling Network show in Fort Valley, GA, on February 2: Brokishi and JJ Flash defeated Qball and Leon Michaels. "The New" Rick Michaels defeated the Underfaker. The Slaughter Pit defeated the team of Danny Horne and Paul Warfield. Iron Will defeated Cowboy. After the match, Cowboy attacks Iron Will. In a grudge match, Tommy 2 Much defeated Ash. A week ago Ash turned on Tommy, helping Chick Donovan retain the AWN title. "The New" Rick Michaels became not only the AWN Heritage champion, but the #1 contender to the AWN Heavyweight championship after winning a 20 man battle royal. Quick results from the February 1 Alternative Pro Wrestling in Royston, GA, are as follows: In the quarterfinals of the North Georgia Title Tournament, Jeremy Vain defeated Justin Dirt with the VDT in 5:59, Chris King defeated Dustin Powers with the CK1 in 6:10, Aaron Lee defeated Chase Darkness with Starstruck in 5:55, Don Mathews defeated Kool Seth Delay with the Lariat in 11:02. In the semifinals, Jeremy Vain defeated Chris King by with VDT in 9:39 and Aaron Lee defeated Don Mathews with a School Boy Roll Up in 7:19. Aaron Lee defeated Jeremy Vain (with Don Mathews) with Starstruck in 14:35 to become the first North Georgia Champion. In non-tournament action, Christy Turner defeated Lloth with a Throat-Slit Neckbreaker in 5:11 and J.T. Talent & Jacob Ashworth beat Slim J & Bo Newsom via DQ in 12:16. The Georgia Pro Wrestling Association will hold a benefit show for Diana Olalde on Thursday, February 7 at City Limits Dining & Entertainment in Tifton, GA. Bell time is 9pm and admission is $10. Matches: "Marvelous" Michael Stevens of the Marvelous Ones versus Iron Will; Leon McMicheals of the Marvelous Ones versus Q-Ball. In a stipulation from January 19, the Marvelous Ones must wrestle in dresses; K.I. Elite ("The Real Deal" Jake Slater & "Platinum Playboy" Preston Paradise) versus GPWA heavyweight champ "Insane" Mike Pain & Psych; and The Masked Nightmare versus "Golden Boy" Chic Donovan in a return match demanded by Mr. Donovan on February 2. The lineup for the February 16 card for All-Star Wrestling Network in Fort Valley, GA: In a match for the AWN Heavyweight Title, Chick Donovan defends against Billy the Kidd. In a four way tag team title match, the KI Elite will take on the Slaughter Pit, Leon Michaels and Qball and Danny Horne and Paul Warfield. The champions can lose the titles even if they aren't pinned. Shaun Hunter faces off against Johnny Camo. In a lumberjack match, Tommy 2 Much takes on Ash. Cowboy against Iron Will. JJ Flash against The Underfaker. NWA Main Event sent out a press release stating that President Mike Porter has signed a deal with ION Television in Nashville to broadcast a weekly television show beginning March 11th with a 4pm Tuesday time slot. The local ION network can be seen throughout Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. According to the release, NWA Main Event plans to work with other NWA members to bring in talent from all over the United States. Jeff Daniels and Ronnie Brown will work with Porter in running the NWA Nashville office and promoting shows within their television coverage area. The weekly shows at the Nashville Fairgrounds Sports Arena will continue, but Bert Prentice will no longer be involved. (Larry Goodman)

We had reported recently that Val Venis and Jillian would be appearing at the Opry Mills Mall in Nashville, TN, for autographs between 4-6 PM on March 16. Another appearance has now been scheduled for March 15 at the same location and time, featuring Deuce and Domino. (Rich Tate)

NOSTALGIA

1934: Dick Daviscourt defeated Frank Speer two falls to one in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Henry Weber. Also, Abe Coleman defeated Chief Chewacki by disqualification.

1934: We do not have results for this match, but Hugh Winn was scheduled to defend the Georgia Light Heavyweight Title against John Mauldin at the Howell Mill Arena in Atlanta for promoter C.W. Bennett.

1956: Chief Big Heart defeated Billy Blassie in the main event at the William Bell Auditorium in Augusta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Tom Mahoney. Roger Mackay defeated Lozano Martinez in the semi-main event.

1959: Paul Anderson defeated the Great Bolo in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. During the match, Anderson removed the Bolo’s mask to identify him as Al Lovelock. Also, Freddie Blassie, Skull Murphy & Ali Bey defeated Ray Gunkel, Doug & Johnny Gilbert.

1962: The World Tag Team Champion Assassins and Rito & Tito Carreon wrestled to a one-hour draw in a title match at the Macon City Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward.

1968: Enrique & Alberto Torres defeated Dr. M & El Mongol, managed by Jack Crawford, in the main event at the Macon City Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward. Tarzan Tyler and Mr. Wrestling wrestled to a draw in the semi-main event.

1970: Nick Bockwinkel defeated El Mongol in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Doug Gilbert, Alberto & Ramon Torres defeated Paul DeMarco & the Assassins by disqualification in the semi-main event. Also, Buddy Colt, managed by Homer O’Dell, defeated the Spoiler (Bugsy McGraw). Leo Garibaldi was credited as being a referee for this card.

1973: Ray Candy, Argentina Apollo & El Mongol defeated Ox Baker, Guillotine Gordon & Goliath in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for All-South Wrestling Alliance promoter Ann Gunkel. Assassin #2 defeated Tommy Seigler in the semi-main event, and Dick Steinborn defeated Rock Hunter by disqualification. Also, Bill Bowman & Joe Turner and Bearcat Wilkerson & Kubla Khan wrestled to a draw.

1973: Bill Dromo & Hiro Matsuda were co-winners of a battle royal at the Macon Coliseum for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward, leading them into the main event, whereas Dromo defeated Matsuda. Bob Armstrong, Norvel Austin, Butcher Brannigan, Derrell Cochran, Johnny Eagle, Jack Evans, Fuji, Rocket Monroe, Tank Morgan, Pantera Negra, Pat O’Brien, Leon Ogle, Koa Tiki, Jerry Valentine, Jimmy Valentine, and Chati Yokuchi also participated. J.C. Dykes managed Yokuchi & Fuji. In the semi-main event, Armstrong & Ogle defeated Austin & Morgan. Also, the Fabulous Moolah defeated Debbie Johnson to retain the Women’s World Title.

1976: The Spoiler, managed by Gary Hart, defeated Dusty Rhodes to win the Georgia Heavyweight Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. The Spoiler had vowed to unmask if he could not defeat Rhodes. A semi-main event match featuring Bob Armstrong & Dick Slater versus Stan Stasiak & Abdullah the Butcher was ruled a no contest. Also, Mike Graham defeated Ken Mantell to retain the US Junior Heavyweight Title. Ron West and Doug Smith were credited as being referees for this card.

1978: Stan Hansen defeated Mr. Wrestling #2 to win the Georgia Heavyweight Title at the William Bell Auditorium in Augusta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Charlie Harben. Dusty Rhodes defeated Ric Flair in the semi-main event, and Ole Anderson defeated Dick Slater.

1982: Ron Fuller & Tommy Rich defeated the Masked Superstar & the Super Destroyer in the main event at the Chattanooga (TN) Memorial Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Ron Bass defeated Jimmy Garvin in a semi-main event no disqualification match. In other matches, Buzz Sawyer defeated Leroy Brown, and Bob Armstrong defeated Ricky Harris (Black Bart).

1983: Buzz Sawyer defeated Tommy Rich in the main event at the Omni Auditorium in Atlanta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Ivan Koloff and Butch Reed wrestled to a draw in the semi-main event, and Stan Hansen defeated Ole Anderson in a bunkhouse match. Also, the Iron Sheik defeated Dick Murdoch in an Iranian club challenge.

1983: Stan Hansen & Butch Reed defeated Ole Anderson & Buzz Sawyer in the main event at the Macon Coliseum for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward. Ivan Koloff defeated Paul Orndorff in a semi-main event Russian death match. Dick Murdoch & Tito Santana defeated the Moondogs, managed by J.J. Dillon.

1985: Tommy Rich defeated Bob Roop in the main event in Clarksburg, WV, for Championship Wrestling from Georgia promoter Ole Anderson. Anderson & Thunderbolt Patterson defeated Scott Irwin & Doug Somers in the semi-main event. Also, a match between Ron Garvin and Ron Starr was ruled a no contest. In other matches, the Rock & Roll RPMs defeated Rip Rogers & Chick Donovan, and the Italian Stallion defeated Kareem Muhammad by disqualification. Mike Davis defeated Doug Somers in the opener.
