Alan Wojcik Reviews Shimmer Volume Six DVD

Courtesy of Alan J. Wojcik:

I am sure it’s been said in other reviews but many wrestling fans I know say in November 2005 the sport and business changed forever when Dave Prazak (Full Impact Pro manager of DP Associates and ROH DVD commentator with Lenny Leonard) and Allison Danger opened Shimmer Women’s Athletes. They weren’t the first people to open a women’s wrestling promotion and they probably won’t be the last. But the vision has worked since the promotion has 14 volumes of shows available on the Ring of Honor website www.rohwrestling.com and a national DVD deal through Big Vision Entertainment with assistance from World Wrestling Network. The vision also works because Shimmer is aligned with ROH/FIP plus the in ring action has attracted the best women in the industry not under WWE contract including several of the current TNA Knockouts to appear at the shows.

Thanks to BVDVD I was sent Volume 6 (filmed sometime in 2006-07) of the series to review and it was eye opening and I am not talking just about the gorgeous ladies on the roster. Here’s a rundown the matches from the DVD:

Amber O' Neal vs. Serena Deeb
Lexie Fyfe, Malia Hosaka, & Amazing (TNA calls her Awesome) Kong vs. Ariel, Josie, & Cindy Rogers
Lorelei Lee (former Florida wrestler) vs. Nikki Roxx
Nikita (currently Katie Lea in WWE) vs. Daizee Haze
Rebecca Knox vs. Allison Danger (Pure Wrestling Rules)
"The Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew" Lacey & Rain vs. Sara Del Rey & Mercedes Martinez (Tag Team Challenge Match)
Cheerleader Melissa (currently in TNA as Raisha Saeed) vs. MsChif (Last Woman Standing Match)

**Bonus Special Attraction Matches- SHIMMER at AAW 10/21/06
LuFisto vs. Josie
Cheerleader Melissa & Nattie Neidhart vs. "Dangerous Angels" Sara Del Rey & Allison Danger

I have only one bad comment on the overall DVD and it’s the production which I am sure has improved on current volumes. The lighting of the venue is not the best but it is a small venue so take that in mind. Prazak and Danger call the majority of the matches except when Danger/Knox wrestler and Prazak is then joined by Daffney. The action is excellent and how more of these ladies are not on WWE or TNA TV is a crime. They have the looks and in ring ability to run the Diva Search winners back to the bikini contest they came from. The “Pure Wrestling Rules” match told a great story as did the “Last Woman Standing” bout which goes all over the venue. If you are tired of watching women who have no business being in the wrestling business compete, then you need to check out www.ShimmerWrestling.com for event info and www.bvdvd.com or www.rohwrestling.com and watch Shimmer!
