MMA Fighter Brings Fight To The Street

Troubled by the pervasiveness of sub-par female self-defense courses, a professional MMA fighter takes matters into her own hands and creates her own female self-defense company.

Mississauga, ON (April 9, 2008) -- Troubled by the pervasiveness of sub-par female self-defense courses, Linda de Los Reyes, a professional MMA fighter, took matters into her own hands and created R.A.V.E.N. her own female self-defense company.

R.A.V.E.N. (Rape and Violence Extinction Now), gives females of all ages the tools that build self-esteem and empower them to make wise self-defense decisions.

Having attended several female self-defense courses, Linda realized that the techniques being taught were not realistic and could not be performed under stress by the average female. And since most courses were taught by a man (someone more readily identified as a potential perpetrator rather than an ally), the courses were not always positive experiences.

Fighters like Linda rely on their instincts to survive and thrive, and her instincts were telling her that women needed a course that would allow conversation, answer questions, and ease fears. Who better to do that, and to teach females about the emotional and physical responses to fear, than a female?

Five years later, R.A.V.E.N. has successfully taught hundreds of women simple and effective self-defense techniques that can easily be preformed under stress. More than just physical techniques, R.A.V.E.N. also teaches that self-defense is a conscious, proactive approach to life.

Linda de Los Reyes is a certified rape prevention instructor with the Association for Women's Self-defense Advancement (A.W.S.D.A.). Linda has fought in three pro MMA fights, is a co-owner and instructor at the Kombat Arts Training Academy and is a Level II Coach under Sensei Erik Paulson in Combat Submission Wrestling. Linda is also a member of VIEWS (Voices Inspiring Equity for Women in Sport & Physical Activity).
