Royce Gracie, Jim Hughes, and Luis Rodriguez conducted a Gracie Jiu Jitsu seminar on April 19 in San Juan. It sold out 3 weeks in advance.

West Hartford, CT, April 28, 2008 -- The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructors were guests of renowned Judo Master Hiro Tomoiti of the University of Puerto Rico. Mr Tomoiti has a worldwide resume of places he has taught and champions he has coached. His Judo club members enjoyed a special private seminar. "They had a very good foundation and picked up our technical details very well. Royce showed them some complicated MMA details which he will only teach if the student is grasping the fundamentals properly, that is entirely to Hiro Tomoiti credit as an expert teacher himself. His students really know how to learn" say Jim Hughes, one of 12 Royce Gracie Black Belts worldwide.

Mr. Rodriguez is the head coach for Jim Hughes and Royce Gracie Jiu Jitsu Puerto Rico. A long time resident of Puerto Rico and Connecticut, Rodriguez is committed to bringing Helio Gracie's original jiu jitsu to the people who want to learn self defense the right way from the ground up.

Jay Bell and Dustin Rhodes are purple belts with Hughes and Gracie. They were present as coaching support for the many seminar participants in the Open Seminar. "We were at maximum capacity at 100 participants in the public seminar" said Lou Rodriguez. Jose Villares, a popular businessman in the construction industry in Puerto Rico said "these gentleman were really helpful, they made it easy to learn." He should know, his Brother is a Black Belt with Royce Gracie and Pedro Valente in Miami.

Bell and Rhodes, along with Doug Gallant, are Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coaches in Connecticut. Jim Campbell also traveled with Hughes, Rodriguez, and Gracie to assist. They are each accomplished fighters. Jay Bell is a "NAGA World's" Champion and Rhodes has won his division at NAGA tournaments. The coaches all agreed "We love Puerto Rico and can't wait to come back to help teach."

Karla Maldanado of La Concha, a famous San Juan hotel destination re-created by hotelier Hugh Andrews in the Canado area, was very helpful with behind the scenes details supporting the seminar. She was also once a Judo student of Professor Hiro Tomoiti. She observed "the group seemed to have a very special bond and it was nice to be a part of that."

Hughes, Rodriguez, Gracie, and team, plan to come back and hold regular seminars in Puerto Rico. For more information go to gracie-jiu-jitsu.com or RoyceGracieJiuJitsu.com or RoyceGracieBrazilianJiuJitsu.com
