NEWS and NOTES

World Wrestling Entertainment’s SmackDown/ECW crew will be at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, PA, tonight. The SmackDown portion will be taped for the August 29 broadcast on the CW. The ECW portion will be taped for Sci-Fi Channel’s September 2 broadcast.

The SmackDown/ECW crew will be at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV, on October 14. Tickets go on sale on September 13.

Another scramble match for Unforgiven was announced on last night’s RAW broadcast, featuring Mark Henry defending the ECW Heavyweight Title in a scramble match including Matt Hardy, Chavo Guerrero, Finlay, and the Miz.

Dave Meltzer is reporting that John Cena is having surgery on his neck today in Pittsburgh, PA. Cena has been pulled from the scramble match for CM Punk’s WWE World Heavyweight Title on Unforgiven and will be replaced by Rey Mysterio.

Total Nonstop Action will be taping for iMPACT! at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL, tonight. Admission for tapings is free. Call (407) 224-6000 for more info. This will be taped for the September 4 broadcast on Spike TV. Advertised: Christian Cage versus A.J. Styles, with the winner earning the final slot in the No Surrender main event, challenging for Samoa Joe’s TNA World Heavyweight Title in a four-way that also already includes Kurt Angle and Booker T.

Southern Extreme Championship Wrestling August 23 results from the Villa Rica Sports Complex and Civic Center in Villa Rica, GA: Colt Derringer defeats Billy Knight. Josh Stone vs. Bulldog Raines ends in a double DQ. Frankie Valentine & Consequences Creed defeats Kyle Matthews & The Nightmare. Rob Adonis defeats Dustin Powers. Ricky Spears was the referee. This event was part of the 3rd annual rodeo that Villa Rica held. Attendance was over 200.

SECW August 22 results from Bremen Rec Center in Bremen, GA: In the SECW Heavyweight title match, champion, Rob Adonis vs. Bull Buchanan ended in a double countout. The Nightmare & Kyle Matthews defeats Frankie Valentine & Josh Storm. Brian Alexander defeats Bulldog Raines due to outside interference. Adrian Hawkins defeats Sal Rinauro. Lamar Philips & Jamie Hall defeats Chris Lightning & The Patriot. Chip Day defeats Billy Knights. The referees for the evening were Ricky Spears, Mr. Peanut & Jeremy Black. The attendance was 130.

SECW’s upcoming event for August 30 at the Bremen Rec Center in Bremen, GA. Advertised: Rob Adonis defends the SECW championship against Bull Buchanan. Bulldog Raines vs. Masked Mystery Man. Don McIntyre had been the reigning Southern Heavyweight Champion since he defeated Tom Mahoney on August 5, 1949, in Atlanta.

AUGUST 26, 1966 (FRIDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – ATLANTA MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM [P] (Paul Jones – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > John Gudiski defeated Kenny Mack > Roger Kirby defeated George Harris > Buddy Fuller defeated Chico Cortez > Ray Gunkel defeated the Golden Terror > The Red Raiders defeated John Gudiski & Greg Peterson > Butcher Vachon defeated Dick Steinborn > World Tag Team Title Match: Enrique & Alberto Torres* defeated the Infernos > Mario Galento defeated J.C. Dykes by disqualification / Notes: John Gudiski substituted for Tito Carreon to team with Greg Peterson in the match with the Red Raiders. Despite the stipulation on August 19, 1966, which said the Infernos had to leave if they lost, which they did, they begged for a final match and Enrique & Alberto Torres accepted. Enrique & Alberto Torres had been the reigning World Tag Team Champions since they defeated the Infernos on August 19, 1966, in Atlanta. J.C. Dykes managed the Infernos. Dykes was disqualified for throwing a fireball at Mario Galento during their match. Butcher Vachon also joined in helping Dykes attack Galento following the bell. The Infernos were barred from ringside during the match. The program for this card featured a photo from a 1931 card at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium, showing Milo Steinborn waiting for his opponent to come to the ring. It was announced that Louie Tillet and Johnny Heidman would be wrestling on the card on September 2, 1966.
