World Championship Fighting 4 Full Of Submissions And Knockouts: Benoit, Bonnell And Hoger Prevail, WCF 5 Set For November 14th

Courtesy of World Championship Fighting:

Boston, Mass. Sept 19th 2008 - Fans at the Shriners auditorium were once again treated to a night of stunning submissions and lightning quick knockouts as World Championship Fighting produced its fourth show in the past year. The night's festivities kicked off with a special autograph session including UFC Fighters: Marcus "the Irish Hand Grenade" Davis, Kenny "KenFlo" Florian, Joe "J-Lau" Lauzon, Dan "The Upgrade" Lauzon, WEC featherweight contender Josh "The Fluke" Grispi and Internet Legend Sean "The Gladiator" Gannon the only man to beat Kimbo Slice.

In one of the nights featured bouts undefeated John Benoit (5-0) made a statement to all lightweight fighters in the WCF by dropping down from the 170lb division to take on the very dangerous Davin Wesinger (4-1). Wesinger came out strong taking the action to Benoit punishing him with combinations on the feet. Once the fight was on the ground Benoit, a Renzo Gracie Jiu Jitsu student, was able to take Cushman's back and secure a rear naked choke. Benoit has been quoted as saying, "Now that I'm at 155lbs, I'm going to clear out this division!"

In the night's co-main event, local Wilmington product Dan Bonnell took on the favored Joe Cushman in a fight that would prove pivotal in the 145lb weight class division. Being the favored fighter, Cushman was expected to come out and take the action to Bonnell. Bonnell on the other hand had ideas of his own. As the opening bell rang both men circled the ring looking to attack. The two engaged in the middle of the ring trading combinations on their feet with Bonnell landing a right hand that buckled the knees of Cushman. Cushman recovered back to his feet and the two once again exchanged punching combinations. After a series of blows landed by both fighters, Bonnell once again found his mark with a vicious right hand that dropped Cushman. Bonnell saw his opportunity and pounced on Cushman landing a series of unanswered blows causing referee Kevin MacDonald to step in and call an end to fight in the first round. After the fight Bonnell was gracious in victory by thanking Cushman and saying, "Joe [Cushman] was by far my toughest opponent so far. Props to him for taking the fight and being so tough."

The night's main event saw the return of UFC veteran and Ultimate Fighter Season 1 star Sam "The Alaskan Assassin" Hoger. Hoger's return was short lived as he quickly landed a kick to late replacement Jason Doloff's face which stunned Doloff and allowed Hoger to follow up with a beautifully placed punch that sent Doloff crashing to the canvas. After the punch the referee was forced to step in and call a halt to the action to protect Doloff from taking any unnecessary punishment. With this win Hoger is now back in MMA and looking shake any ring rust that may have built up during his 16 month plus layoff from competition. Look for Hoger to return to the Heavyweight division and continue his quest to rise to the top of the Heavyweight rankings. WCF 4 proved to be an overwhelming success with World Championship Fighting promoter Joe Cavallaro saying, "We continue to see a tremendous outpouring of support from our fans each and every show. I really can't explain it; I think we've found a great home for World Championship Fighting in the Boston area. The fans here are the greatest; they really know the sport and appreciate the fighters! It's truly a pleasure for us to bring this action to the fans here in the North East."

World Championship Fighting would like to thank all of fighters, fans, media and its great sponsors for making the event such an overwhelming success. Mark your calendars now for WCF 5 on November 14th! Tickets are on sale now at www.WCFighting.com. We'll see you at the fights!
