DVD Review: Last Call With Raven And Sandman
Courtesy of Main Event Radio's Steven Wilson:
In the past, the Pro Wrestling’s Ultimate Insiders shoot interview series was known for being informative and groundbreaking. Vince Russo and Ed Farrara brought the series to the forefront, and now Raven, Sandman, Terry Funk and The Gangsters have taken it straight to comedic hell with the latest installment entitled “Last Call with Raven and Sandman”Hosted as always by Dr Keith Lipinski and set in a make shift bar scene, from the opening seconds of Last Call you know this isn’t going to be your typical shoot interview. Instead you get 90 minutes of pure drunk insanity.
Im sure all of you reading this have at one time or another been at a party where that one guy who has had too much to drink just won’t shut up, and proceeds to yell and scream various embarrassing stories or spew some controversial opinions, now picture that person times 4, and the 4 being Raven, Sandman, New Jack and Mustafa, add in Terry Funk telling a story of how when he was 12 he got a “moo job” from a calf he was raising on his family ranch and I think you know what to expect. Amongst the various topics touched on are New Jack’s bold predictions for the Obama administration, Sandman’s departure from the WWE, Raven’s departure from TNA, oh and drugs, drugs and more drugs. Poor Keith Lipinski is the target of much abuse and has the impossible task of trying to ask these guys questions while also supplying them with drink after drink.
Extras include: New Jack’s entire speech from Terry Funk’s retirement banquet the night before ECW’s first PPV event where Jack was so high that he barely talked about Terry in the 15 minute tribute. Also included is 6 matchups from the XPW video library, these are Terry Funk vs Shane Douglas, The Sandman vs Supreme, Raven vs Vic Grimes, New Jack vs Kaos, J.N vs Chronic (Feat Mustafa), and New Jack vs The Messiah.
If you’re like me and are a huge fan of Raven, Sandman, The Gangsters, and Terry Funk then despite the randomness your bound to enjoy the train wreck that is Last Call. It’s absolutely hilarious at times, confusing during others, and downright disturbing as well, but in the end its these guys doing what they do best, and that entertaining you with some of the stories that have made them famous. After all who would turn down a chance to have a beer with these hardcore legends? Not everyone gets that chance in real life, but you can get the same experience by picking up this DVD.
