NEWS and NOTES

Tonight’s debut of the NoseBleed Section, with hosts John ‘Stoney’ Cannon and Joe ‘Joco’ Cowart, presents a tongue-in-cheek look at the world of pro wrestling. The broadcast starts at 9:00 PM ET, and is brought to you by Georgia Wrestling History’s GWH Radio Network.

Due to something similar to a perfect storm, the majority of the Peach State Pandemonium crew had unexpected issues arise that has forced the cancellation of last night’s scheduled show. Karl Lauer and Bobby Simmons’ Way back segment will be pushed back to a date to be announced soon.

Tickets for the following World Wrestling Entertainment events go on sale Friday: February 27, at the Cornwall Civic Complex in Cornwall, ON; and February 28, in Burlington, VT, at the Memorial Auditorium.

The final overall rating for the Tuesday edition of WWE’s ECW was 1.1.

As we reported yesterday, Terry Funk and Dory Funk, Jr., had been discussed as possible inductees for the 2009 class of WWE’s Hall of Fame. Sources are reporting now that they will indeed be inducted at the ceremonies on April 4.

The lineup for tonight’s iMPACT broadcast on Spike TV, from Total Nonstop Action, is as follows: Sting defends the TNA World Heavyweight Title against Hernandez; Rhaka Khan, Rasiha Saeed & Sojourner Bolt versus Taylor Wilde, Roxxi Laveaux & ODB; Jay Lethal & Consequences Creed versus Matt Morgan & Abyss; and Scott Steiner versus A.J. Styles. There will be another Sarah Palin skit.

TNA will be at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, PA, on April 19 for the Lockdown PPV.

The weekly shows at the Nashville Fairgrounds Sports Arena were moved to Thursday night starting January 1. They are now a joint venture between Bert Prentice and Mike Porter with NWA Main Event's involvement limited to taping matches for their TV show. Advertised for tonight: Doug Gilbert vs. "King" Shane Williams; Chase Stevens vs. Travis Sawyer; Matt Boyce vs. Teddy Tender; Seven vs. Alan Shepard; Jason James vs. Mike Rapada, Jr., plus 3 NWA Main Event matches for TV.

All-State Wrestling will be at the Statum Cab Company Building in Shelbyville, TN, tonight.

Ericules Wrestling Promotions will be at the Green Acres Flea Market in Louisville, TN, tonight.

Florida Championship Wrestling will be at the FCW Arena in Tampa, FL, tonight.

The last reference we have shows Tony Padrone being billed as champion on December 11, 1933.

JANUARY 15, 1935 (TUESDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – ATLANTA MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM (Henry Weber – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Bull Schmidt defeated Foy Rivers at 10:00 > Pat Mullins defeated Frenchy LaRue at 20:00 > Orville Brown defeated Whitey Hewitt at 43:00 (2-1) > Dorv Roche defeated Karl Sarpolis by disqualification at 28:00 (2-0) / Notes: It was reported that 2,000 were in attendance for this card.

JANUARY 15, 1935 (TUESDAY) – AUGUSTA, GA – NEW COLISEUM (Jack Browning – Promoter) > Inman Rabon defeated Young Jones (2-0) > Ed Nolan defeated Jim Hesslyn (2-1) > Southern Lightweight Title Match: Jack Ross* and Dobie Osborne wrestled to a draw / Notes: Jack Ross had been billed as Southern Lightweight Champion since May 9, 1933.

JANUARY 15, 1936 (WEDNESDAY) – AUGUSTA, GA – NEW COLISEUM (Bill Metzger – Promoter) > Pat Newman defeated Jimmy O’Dowd (2-0) > Southern Lightweight Title Match: Jack Ross* defeated Honey Boy Hackney / Notes: Jack Ross had been billed as Southern Lightweight Champion since January 8, 1936.

JANUARY 15, 1937 (FRIDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – ATLANTA THEATRE (Frank Speer – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > George Harben defeated Jimmy Morris > Milo Steinborn defeated Blue Sun Jennings > George Hagen defeated Karl Davis (2-1) / Notes: Frank Speer was the special referee for the match between George Hagen and Karl Davis.

JANUARY 15, 1937 (FRIDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – NORTHSIDE ARENA (Frank Bettis and Cleve Roby – Promoters) > Boxing Match: Farmer Mack versus Doc Poole > Bill Jeffries versus Chief Barefoot > Jack McAdams and John Ellis wrestled to a draw at 30:00 / Notes: Aside from the match between Jack McAdams and John Ellis, no documented results for the remaining matches on this card have been found.

Mario Galento had been the reigning Georgia Heavyweight Champion since he defeated Sputnik Monroe on November 13, 1964, in Atlanta. It was announced that George Harris and Krusher Karlson would be wrestling on the card on January 22, 1965, and that Red Roberts, Tarzan Tyler, and Sam Steamboat would be wrestling in Atlanta soon.

JANUARY 15, 1971 (FRIDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – ATLANTA MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM [P] (Paul Jones – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Skandor Akbar defeated Silento Rodriguez > Michel Dubois & Fidel Castillo defeated Jack & Jim Dalton > One-Night Tournament: Buddy Colt defeated Bob Griffin; El Mongol defeated Kubla Khan; Paul DeMarco defeated Luke Graham by disqualification; Buddy Colt defeated El Mongol by forfeit; DeMarco defeated Colt to win tournament > Georgia Tag Team Title Match: the Assassins* versus Ray Gunkel & Buddy Fuller ruled a no contest / Notes: The tournament was to determine a challenger to wrestle the NWA World Heavyweight Champion on January 22, 1971. Following the tournament match between Buddy Colt and El Mongol, Mongol had to be carried from the ring. Homer O’Dell managed Colt. The Assassins had been the reigning Georgia Tag Team Champions since they defeated Mr. Ito & the Great Ota in a tournament final on October 16, 1970, in Atlanta. Jack Crawford managed Kubla Khan. It was announced that Nick Bockwinkel and Joe Flaherty would be wrestling in Atlanta soon. Paul DeMarco participated in an autograph session for fans.

JANUARY 15, 1972 (SATURDAY) – ATLANTA, GA – WTCG STUDIOS (Paul Jones – Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Pat & Mike Kelly defeated Joe Turco & Bill White > Dick Steinborn and Mr. X wrestled to a draw > Klondike Bill defeated Karl Von Stroheim by disqualification > Cisco Grimaldo and the Champ wrestled to a draw / Notes: This was taped for the “Georgia Championship Wrestling” television program hosted by Ed Capral. Assassin #1 managed Karl Von Stroheim and Mr. X.
