Source - Owned Entertainment, Inc.:

12/07/2009 - Owned Entertainment Inc. announced today, along with Steven J. Wong and Bobby Razak Films, the biggest MMA Entertainment venture of all time with MMA's most marketable star. The Project is directed by Steven J Wong and is Executive Produced by James Hergott and Bobby Razak. It stars Ultimate Fighting Champion Georges St- Pierre and dynamic MMA fighter David "The Crow" Loiseau and is currently titled "The Striking Truth".

The Deal signed last week includes 3 years and hundreds of hours of never seen before HD footage filmed of Georges St-Pierre by Steven J. Wong, including his training, home life and all that happened behind the scenes as he grew from MMA fighter to UFC champion. It juxtaposes the story with former UFC contender David "The Crow" Loiseau and all of the ups and downs he has faced in his career. Revolutionary 3D technology is being utilized to take the footage shot and edit it in 3D. Additionally new scenes will be shot, including a full David Loiseau fight in 3D. The film also explores the relationship between the two athletes and their home life. It will also include several of St-Pierre and David’s early fights prior to competing in the UFC.

This is the exclusive documentary for charismatic Ultimate Fighting Champion Georges St-Pierre, who is currently ranked as one of the top "pound for pound" fighters by multiple MMA sources. For his exciting brand of fighting Georges St-Pierre (GSP) was named the Canadian Athlete of the Year by Rogers Sportsnet. Georges’ last fight at UFC 100; achieved Pay Per View buys in excess of 1.5 million, making it one of the most-watched PPV events in history according to Kevin Ioli of Yahoo Sports Online. Georges St-Pierre became the first MMA fighter to be sponsored by Gatorade (GSP’s Gatorade commercial includes footage from this movie) and Under Armour. Georges St-Pierre's UFC fight at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec reportedly sold out in minutes. GSP's face graced the cover of the official UFC video game in stores across Canada.

This past week Wong and Hergott made the rounds to several Canadian Media outlets. Including being interviewed by the Fight Network: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_iy1chCjC0, the National Post Newspaper released this week, a special segment on Showdown Joe’s MMA Connected show, which airs tonight on Sportsnet Ontario at 11:30pm EST and Pacific at Midnight with multiple airings throughout the week (check local listings) and will be online Dec 11,th at http://www.sportsnet.ca/mma/, Mauro Ranallo’s “The MMA Show” which plays on the Score Network Fridays at 12pm and 3pm & Saturdays at 2am, 2pm & 6pm as well as his radio show and Newspaper article in the Northumberland News coming out Thursday December 10th.

MMA is the fastest growing sport and is showing recession resiliency. The UFC's President Dana White comments on the sport's success, “The crazy thing about this sport is we haven't even scratched the surface on how big this thing is going to be. It's going to be the biggest sport in the world.”

Top MMA Producer and Canadian native James Hergott who over the past year produced, wrote and directed 10 episodes for a tv show on HDNET and filmed a movie about the first MMA fights in an active war zone that will premier in Washington DC for wounded veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq war (see trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHM33cURCjM and Inside MMA segment here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKQHMB7cC1k Fox News interview: http://www.foxnews.com/video-search/m/22079298/mma-legacy.htm) procured the deal and is coming on board to Executive Produce along with Bobby Razak. In 2005 Hergott procured a distribution deal for his low budget feature film, getting it distributed in Regal, United Artist and Edwards theatres, which is the largest theatre chain in North America. Bobby Razak is MMA's top Director, who for the past ten years has exclusively directed all of the TapouT commercials and movies including Simply Believe, Mask, Bloodlines, Drysdale, and Pitfight Redux (Bobby Razak videos: http://www.vimeo.com/user863668). Razak is currently working on a Legalize MMA in Ontario and New York commercial campaign for clothing giant Ecko Unlimited including filming at Tristar gym in Montreal.

According to DreamWorks head Jeffrey Katzenberg; Digital 3-D movies usually gross at least three times as much as their flat-world counterpart. Cynthia Ludwig, editor of My Bloody Valentine 3D, which grossed over $51 million at the US Box Office this year, will edit the film’s 3D segments. Hergott comments, "GSP is the Boardwalk piece in MMA and Razak, Steven and I are going to build a hotel on that piece utilizing revolutionary technology. We want to create the most stunning MMA movie ever. And the best part is, it's all real!"

Announced December 4th, 2009, Sony pictures signed a 3-D video deal for the 2010 world cup. The Japanese electronics and entertainment company is one of several electronics makers planning or working on 3-D technology for TVs and movies. Sony makes 3-D capable video cameras, and plans to sell 3-D TVs for homes next year. Most 3-D releases so far have been animation films but the feature is gradually spreading to other genres, such as the soon-to-be-released sci-fi epic Avatar. Sony Corp. CEO Howard Stringer said, “Sports was definitely one area 3-D could display its strengths.”

The deal also includes exclusive tracks from French Canadian rapper Sans Pression, who has done entrance music for GSP for past UFC fights.

Since the Movie was primarily shot in Canada, about Canadian subject matter and with Canadian crew and cast it is subject to up to 40% in Canadian and provincial tax incentives and rebates. HERSCHEL WALKER TO MAKE MMA DEBUT; NICK DIAZ AND CRIS CYBORG RETURN TO ACTION AT STRIKEFORCE EVENT IN SUNRISE, FLORIDA

Source - Strikeforce:

Ticket Pre-Sale Begins Monday, December 7

NEW YORK (Dec. 4, 2009) — Just months after the stunning announcement that he would try his hand at mixed martial arts (MMA), NFL and NCAA football legend, Herschel Walker, will make his highly anticipated STRIKEFORCE MMA debut at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida on Saturday, Jan. 30. Superstar Nick Diaz and STRIKEFORCE world 145-pound women’s champion Cris Cyborg will co-headline a stacked fight card during STRIKEFORCE’s historic first visit to the state of Florida.

A special pre-sale ticket purchase opportunity will take place for “STRIKEFORCE Insider” e-newsletter subscribers (http://strikeforce.com/insider.html) beginning at 10 a.m. ET Monday, Dec. 7, and ending at 10 p.m. ET on Thursday, Dec. 10. ”STRIKEFORCE Insiders” will receive a special e-newsletter Friday, Dec. 4 with the pre-sale code.

Tickets officially go on-sale next Friday, Dec. 11 at the BankAtlantic Center ticket office as well as online at www.Ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800)745-3000.

Walker, the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner and two-time Pro Bowl competitor, will face an opponent to be announced in one of as many as five televised fights live on SHOWTIME® (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) bouts on the STRIKEFORCE card.

The 6-foot-1 inch, 220-pound former running back, who already holds a fifth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and boasts additional training in the combat disciplines of Muay Thai and Kenpo, recently entered a 12-week MMA training camp at San Jose, California’s American Kickboxing Academy (AKA), which plays home to a host of the world’s greatest fighters, including STRIKEFORCE Lightweight Champion Josh “The Punk” Thomson and undefeated middleweight superstar Cung Le.

Walker, a 1999 College Hall of Fame inductee who was also selected to Sports Illustrated’s NCAA All-Century Team that year, has never been one to shy away from the road less traveled.

Walker, a born-again Christian, astonished the sports world by withdrawing from school to play professional ball in the newly formed United States Football League (USFL) rather than wait to enter the NFL draft after the graduation of his collegiate class, a rule maintained by the world’s largest professional football league at the time.

While the vast majority of football players typically follow an intensive weight room regimen, Walker relied on bodyweight exercise, conditioning, and calisthenics while maintaining very little body fat.

Walker was eventually drafted in 1985 by The Dallas Cowboys and established himself as a premiere running back in the league. In 1986, he was the driving force behind a historic trade that sent in to The Minnesota Vikings in exchange for five players and six draft picks.

In 12 NFL seasons with four different teams, he became the only player to gain 4,000 yards three different ways – rushing, receiving, and kickoff returns. He is one of six players to exceed 60 touchdowns rushing and 20 touchdowns receiving and is the only player in NFL history to register a 90 plus yard reception, a 90 plus yard run, and a 90 plus yard kickoff return, all in one season (1994).

Off the gridiron, Walker has achieved a handful of feats, including a seventh place finish in the 1992 Winter Olympics two-man bobsled competition. Now 47 years of age, the native of Wrightsville, Georgia will look to conquer a whole new world.

Diaz will make his first start since he submitted hard-hitting Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith with a rear naked choke in the third round (1:41) of their STRIKEFORCE: Lawler vs. Shields matchup at St. Louis, Missouri’s Scottrade Center on June 6, 2009. The 26 year old Diaz, a native of Stockton, California, will put a five fight win streak on the line.

Cyborg made history on Aug. 15, 2009 when the 24-year-old native of Brazil stopped superstar Gina Carano with a punishing barrage of strikes in the first round (4:59) of their meeting to become the first-ever STRIKEFORCE women’s champion. The long-awaited showdown between Carano and Cyborg also marked the first women’s main event in the history of any major MMA promotion.

Doors at BankAtlantic Center open at 7 p.m. The first non-televised, preliminary card fight will begin at 8 p.m.

STRIKEFORCE in March 2009 signed a multi-year agreement to stage live MMA events on the premium cable television network. The promotion made its live, primetime debut on CBS with the “Fedor vs. Rogers” mega-fight that it co-promoted with M-1 Global on Saturday, November 7 and generated 5.46 million viewers for the main event between the world’s number one heavyweight, Fedor Emelianenko, and superstar Brett “The Grim” Rogers.

K.J. NOONS SIGNS WITH STRIKEFORCE

Source - Strikeforce:

NEW YORK (Dec. 3, 2009)– Former lightweight champion K.J. Noons (6-1) has signed a multi-fight agreement with world championship mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion STRIKEFORCE and will make his long-awaited return to the cage at a date to be determined soon.

Noons’ STRIKEFORCE debut will be his first MMA start since June 14, 2008, when he reeled off his third consecutive win in the cage by demolishing Yves Edwards with a series of punches and elbows just 48 seconds into their meeting at Honolulu, Hawaii’s Neil S. Blaisdell Arena.

Following the victory over Edwards, Noons began a hiatus from MMA in order to pursue a professional boxing career. He has since been victorious in four of five appearances in the squared circle, bringing his overall boxing record to 12-2 with 6 knockouts.

“I’m super excited to be a part of STRIKEFORCE and I’m looking forward to putting on great fights,” said Noons, who will celebrate his 27th birthday on Monday, Dec. 7. “I’ve always wanted to come back, but I wanted to box for a little while in order to polish my boxing skills. Now, I’m ready to jump back into the picture in MMA.”

To date, Noons’ most memorable stand in MMA was his meeting with dangerous striker and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Nick Diaz. In the first round, Noons opened a cut below Diaz’s right eyebrow with a hard knee strike to the head after Diaz shot in for a takedown and, soon after, dropped Diaz with a straight counter right hand.

After round one came to an end, the ringside doctor ordered a stoppage to the fight due to two cuts Diaz had sustained on his forehead. Noons was declared the winner of the fight by TKO.

Noons, who fights out of San Diego, Calif., also boasts a record of 13-1 with 10 KO knockouts in kickboxing competition.

“I feel a lot more confident with my game -- my striking and everything else,” he said. “I feel I’m a more complete fighter and I’m ready to fight whoever STRIKEFORCE puts in front of me.”

Alan Wojcik Review: Howard Brody's Swimming With Piranhas

http://alanwojcik.com:

Everyone has a dream occupation. Some just dream and never go for it, some go for it and succced while others fail and never recover. Former NWA President and wrestling promoter Howard T. Brody had success and failure and came away with an amazing story to tell. He did it with the help of ECW Press in the book SWIMMING WITH PIRANHAS: SURVIVING THE POLITICS OF PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING (412pp, $19.95) Brody's story is introduced by NWA Hall of Fame member James E. Cornette who's known Brody for several years.

Unlike most memoirs this is not Brody's story alone, its the story of the once great National Wrestling Alliance that Brody helped revive in the 1990's with the late Dennis Carluzzo and other promoters. Also involved is a business deal with wrestling legend Hiro Matsuda that turned into a decades long friendship which helped Brody become savy to the politics he talks mentions in the title. Like many people not working for WWE or TNA, Brody held down a full time job while running several different entities and will be surprised to know he was able to keep it going. Also like many people his private life was hurt by his buisness life. Brothers & friends he borrowed money from knowing they may never get a dime back. A wife who knew that she shared Brody with the mistress known as professional wrestling. The amazing parts of the book are Brody's near perfect memory of meetings and business deals long gone and how he was never arrested because of the people he worked with who ended up being shadier than anyone in wrestling. Speaking of shady wrestling people Brody dealt with them from Vince & Linda McMahon, Herb Abrams, Eric Bischoff, Paul Heyman, Tod Gordon, Dory & Marti Funk to the lady wrestlers that worked for Brody for years in his promotions. As mentioned above Brody worked with the NWA and held their presidency from 1996-2001 and dealt with more things than anyone should ever had to deal with. You think the current backstage politics you read about online are bad, take the time to read this book and you will have new respect for people who stay away from the politics. Swimming With Piranhas is great Christmas gift and can be found on sale at bookstores nationwide, through www.ecwpress.com or www.howardbrody.com where you can read other reviews and hear interviews with the author.

The 5-foot-8, 33-year-old, who hails from Amsterdam, Netherlands, comes to STRIKEFORCE after reaching the semifinal round of the 2008 DREAM Middleweight (185 pounds) Grand Prix tournament by scoring first round TKOs over Dae Won Kim and legendary champion Kazushi Sakuraba on May 11, 2008 and June 15, 2008 respectfully.

His well-known battle cry “When I fight, I am willing to die” has translated into Manhoef’s explosive style of fighting, one that has helped him earn 22 of his 30 career MMA wins and 27 of his 45 career kickboxing victories by knockout.

On Feb. 26, 2005, Manhoef initiated his best run to date, a 10-fight win streak in MMA competition, by stopping Matthias Riccio at Cage Rage 10 in London, England with a series of strikes in the first round (3:01).

Amongst his victims during the stretch were Ian “The Machine” Freeman and Crosley Gracie, both of whom Manhoef stopped in the first round with strikes. Manhoef was crowned Cage Rage champion on Sept. 10, 2005 after scoring a 51-second knockout with punches over Brazil’s Fabio Piamonte in London.

Asked on short notice to serve as a replacement in a heavyweight matchup with knockout artist Mark Hunt at the annual New Year’s Eve “Dynamite” extravaganza in Saitama, Japan last year, Manhoef obliged and, despite being at a tremendous weight disadvantage, crushed the Samoan fighter with an onslaught of punches a mere 18 seconds after the opening bell rang.

Manhoef’s career in K-1, the world’s premiere stand-up fighting league, dates back to Feb. 24, 2002. During his tenure with the Japanese promotion, he has triumphed over the likes of former K-1 tournament champions Stefan Leko and Ruslan Karaev, whom Manhoef flattened with a left hook only 31 seconds into their meeting in Amsterdam on June 23, 2007.

Born in Suriname, Manhoef relocated to Rotterdam with his family when he was three years old. He was introduced to the sport of Muay Thai by his brother and, at age 18, won his first bout.
