We have just learned that a funeral will be held today for the infant son of local wrestling favorite Jason Cross at 11:00 AM. The obituary from the Macon Telegraph: “Nickolas Jason Massengale -IVEY - Nickolas Jason Massengale, was two months and five days old, when he passed away on October 29, 2007 at Children's Hospital of Atlanta-Egleston. He battled since birth with a serious heart defect, "Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome". -Nick is survived by his Mother, Tara Lyn Tapley Massengale; and Father William Jason Massengale; His Sister, Kaylyn A. Tabor of Ivey and family. -Services will be held Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 11A.M. in the Gordon First Baptist Church . Burial will be in the Ivey Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Maxie Threatt will officiate. -Donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House at Egleston. NOSTALGIA

1932: Joe DeVito defeated Floyd Marshall in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Henry Weber.

1933: Chief Chewacki defeated Tom Marvin two falls to one in the main event at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Henry Weber.

1937: The Bat defeated John Mauldin in the main event at the Spring Street Arena in Atlanta for promoters Frank Bettis and Cleve Roby.

1944: Babe Sharkey defeated Mr. X to retain the World Heavyweight Title at the Augusta Municipal Auditorium for promoter Jack Ross, who was the special referee. Sharkey had been the reigning champion as recognized by the Maryland Athletic Commission since he defeated Strangler Lewis on March 14, 1944, in Baltimore, MD.

1946: George Temple, brother of child star Shirley Temple, defeated Earl Wampler by disqualification at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones.

1960: Freddie Blassie defeated Tiny Evans in the main event at the Macon City Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward.

1961: The Assassin defeated Jack Bence in the main event at the Columbus Sports Arena for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward.

1963: Lou Thesz defeated the Mighty Hercules to retain the NWA World Heavyweight Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Don McIntyre. Thesz had been the reigning champion since he defeated Buddy Rogers on January 24, 1963, in Toronto, ON.

1966: Don McClarty & Roger Kirby defeated the Red Raiders in the main event at the Macon City Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward.

1968: NWA World Heavyweight Champion Gene Kiniski and the Professional were both counted out in a title match at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Kiniski had been the reigning champion since he defeated Lou Thesz on January 7, 1966, in St. Louis, MO.

1974: Buddy Colt & Roger Kirby, managed by Bearcat Wright, defeated Ole & Gene Anderson to win the Georgia Tag Team Title at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. The title had been held up on October 25, 1974, following a match in Atlanta where Harley Race, also managed by Wright, teamed with Colt against the Andersons, who had been the reigning champions since they defeated Mr. Wrestling #1 & #2 on September 20, 1974, in Atlanta. Also, in the main event Wrestling #2 defeated Race.

1976: Mr. X defeated Mr. Wrestling #2 in the main event at the William Bell Auditorium in Augusta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Charlie Harbin.

1977: Mr. Wrestling #2 defeated Pak Song, managed by Rock Hunter, in a No Disqualification Match at the Macon Coliseum for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Fred Ward.

1981: Ric Flair defeated Tommy Rich, substituting for Dusty Rhodes, to retain the NWA World Heavyweight Title at the Omni Auditorium in Atlanta for Georgia Championship Wrestling promoter Paul Jones. Flair had been the reigning champion since he defeated Rhodes on September 17, 1981, in Kansas City, MO.
