On Tuesday January 8, 2008 Florida Championship Wrestling returned to Bourbon Street Night Club where the promotion holds weekly events. Bourbon St is located at 4331 US 19N in New Port Richey.
(1) In a triple threat match, Tommy Taylor defeated Chris Gray and Brandon Groom.
The former young Lions, Gray and Taylor, appeared to work together in taking out Groom but that ended when Taylor went to pin Groom and Gray broke it up. Groom fought back trying to keep his opponents separated by sending Taylor to the floor but Gray pounced on him. Groom fought back with a belly to belly suplex for two as Taylor made his way back to the ring where Gray hit him with a dropkick that caused Gray to land on Groom swanton style for two. Groom fought back with a tilt-a-whirl slam for two. All three nearly were eliminated during a tower of doom in the corner but it was Taylor who pinned Gray with a crucifix to end the hard fought bout.
(2) Rycklon & G-Rilla defeated Sheamus & “Handsome” Heath Miller via DQ.
These four men have had issues in the past so the FCW Commissioner’s office made this match hoping to solve them. But at the opening bell it looked like Miller and Sheamus had issues over who was going to begin against G-Rilla, Miller won the argument but quickly tagged out before any contact. Sheamus came back in and locked up with G-Rilla who delivered several elbows and a clothesline taking down the Irishmen before a rolling senton. G-Rilla felt he needed some arm work so he did some push ups off Sheamus’ back before tagging in Rycklon. Sheamus got a poke to the eye in before tagging in Miller who was promptly hip tossed to the opposite corner. But the referee wouldn’t allow a double team move between Rycklon & G-Rilla and it allowed Miller to clip out G-Rilla’s left knee. Sheamus & Miller made several tags working over the injury with submission and double team moves, some legal and illegal. But Sheamus missed a corner splash and it allowed Rycklon the tag that saw him clean the proverbial house. That was until Sheamus grabbed his battle axe and slammed Rycklon in gut as he was press slamming Miller. The referee immediately called for the bell and the DQ.
(3) Bryan Kelly defeated Steve Lewington.
There was a handshake to begin the bout and then Lewington went work on Kelly’s upper body with armbars and neck holds. Kelly backed Lewington to a corner but Lewington went right back to the side headlock but Kelly got out with a shoulder tackle, only to run into a knee and a shoulder breaker that got two. Lewington locked in a mat based body scissor submission but rolled Kelly over into a two count pin. Kelly tried to get out by attacking the legs of the Brit but got out with several elbow shots to the jaw. But Lewington got to his feet and hit a slam for two. Lewington went back to the mat, this time with an abdominal stretch hold. When that didn’t get the submission Lewington switched to a bear hug but Kelly got out with a shot to the mouth. Kelly went for a corner splash but Lewington caught him, only to lose his grip and it allowed Kelly to slide out and score a pin.
(4) “Bad Seed” Shawn Osborne defeated Derick Linkin.
Osborne wasn’t too happy Linkin also hailed from Arizona and slapped the taste out of his mouth. That only angered Linkin who chased Osborne to the floor and back in the ring before locking in a side headlock. Osborne backed Linkin to a corner and on the break he raked Linkin’s eyes before dropping several elbows. Osborne focused his attack Linkin’s back with suplexes and backbreakers but only got two. Linkin fought back hitting Osborne with a Saito suplex that briefly took the wind out of both men. Linkin got on the attack with power moves that got two as Osborne draped his leg on the bottom rope. This allowed Osborne to hit a Rude Awakening for two as Linkin was not done fighting. In fact he had Osborne pinned with a roll up but Osborne rolled through and used the tights to pin Linkin.
(5) “The Carnival Freak” Sinn Bowdee defeated Kevin Kiley.
Kiley was recently dubbed the “rookie sensation” by several FCW fans and Bowdee was out to show them he was the true sensation in FCW. Both men traded side headlocks with Bowdee getting hit with a second rope splash and two bodyslams for two in Kiley’s favor. Bowdee fought back with an eye rake and several shots to the face via hand and boot. Bowdee kept on the head with a neckvise submission but Kiley refused to submit. Bowdee switched to n chest attack that got him two but Kiley kept on coming back for more. So Bowdee locked in a waistlock but Kiley countered out and sent Bowdee face first into a corner buckle. Kiley fought back with punches but Bowdee got a karate chop to the throat the referee missed and it allowed Bowdee to get the pinfall win.
(6) The Bella Twins (Nicole & Brianna) defeated Maryse & Victoria Crawford.
Before the match Crawford and Maryse had words for the fans, basically clearing up the rumors that they are not just wrestlers, they are super models who have been on the catwalks around the world. The Bella’s didn’t care about any of that as Nicole locked up with Maryse but both ladies tagged out letting their partners get some ring time. Crawford accused Brianna of pulling her tights and hair which worked distracting Brianna so Crawford could get in a cheap shot. Maryse and Crawford made several tags working over Brianna as the fans cheered for the Bella’s. Maryse and Crawford spent more time talking trash with Brianna then hitting moves and it allowed Brianna to roll up Crawford for the win.
(7) Mighty Mikey defeated “the Natural” Nic Nemeth (w/Big Rob).
Nemeth wasn’t too sure what to make of the masked man and he consulted Big Rob on a plan of attack. The plan seemed to involve complaining about hair pulls and tight grabs instead of actual wrestling. That was done by Mikey who took Nemeth down with several side headlocks. That was stopped by a shot to Mikey’s gut and some punches to the head. Mikey fought back with a heel trip takedown for one before going back to the headlock. Nemeth got in another cheap shot and it allowed him to take Mikey down with a head vise. Mikey fought to his feet only to have his mask grabbed as he was tossed to the canvas. Nemeth thought he had the win but the referee counted only two. This allowed Mikey a chance to fight back with chest chops and a backslide for two. Mikey reversed a corner whip and hit a moonsault for two before going for a move on the apron. But he went after Big Rob instead only to be caught in the air. This brought Matt O’Neal to ringside who got in Big Rob’s face. Mikey slid back into the ring and was able to win via a small package. After the match Nemeth and Big Rob had heated words with O’Neal about his interference.
(8) “The South City Thriller” Hade Vansen & Jake Hager defeated Robert Anthony & “the Campus Legend” Brad Allen.
Allen and Anthony made for a good team keeping Hager and Vansen off their game. Could be Hager was still ticked off at his Oklahoma Sooner’s bowl defeat last week. Their offense was brought to a stop when Hager dropped the top rope down and it sent Anthony crashing to the floor out of control. As Vansen kept the referee and Allen busy, Hager slammed Anthony’s ribs into the ring apron several times. Anthony was tossed back in the ring where Vansen was waiting to pounce on the injury. Vansen and Hager made several timely tags wearing down Anthony but it didn’t work that well as he was able to fight back with a Pele’ kick to Vansen. This allowed Anthony to go for the tag but Allen refused the tag, stepping off the apron. This allowed Hager to hit a German suplex for the victory leaving Anthony confused as to why his partner abandoned him.
It was now time for the world famous Handsome” Heath Miller’s Happy Hour. Tonight Miller’s guest was supposed to be the new FCW Southern Heavyweight champion Ted DiBiase Jr. but the Japanese superstar Yamamoto came out to the ring first. Miller was confused what Yamamoto wanted in the Happy Hour. But Yamamoto seemed to only speak Japanese and it only confused Miller more. Yamamoto seemed like he was in America for championship gold and that brought out DiBiase with face wide grin. DiBiase was happy to begin the New Year on the Happy Hour and said he had spent some time in Japan before joining FCW, saying he understood what Yamamoto was saying in some broken words, namely Carrot Top. All this did was incite Miller as the fans chanted Carrot Top. Miller tried to get the interview back on track, asking the new champion about his plans for 2008. DiBiase said he wanted to remain on the mountain top as champion, claiming no one in FCW could knock him off. Miller told DiBiase that being the champion made him the most wanted man in FCW and he needed to enjoy the title but look over his back as TJ Wilson was laying in wait for a rematch. DiBiase said he wasn’t afraid of anyone and this brought out Wilson who went right after DiBiase but was cut off by Miller and Yamamoto. Afa hit the ring and it became a severe beatdown with Afa using miller’s belt to attack Wilson. The FCW locker room emptied trying to separate the superstars, which they did and the bell rang beginning the next match of the evening
(9) In a revenge match, Afa Jr. and “the Stampede Kid” TJ Wilson was ruled a no contest.
It began with Wilson sending Afa outside to the floor. But Afa got on his feet and fought back with chest chops which sent Wilson into the crowd. Afa followed him around the staging area and out the door sending fan running for safety. As Wilson and Afa took out furniture and beer bottles the referee and the FCW office felt the match was out of control and called for the bell calling it a no contest. Wilson walked into the ring and demanded the match be restarted. Both men had to be restrained by referees and several wrestlers before some form of order was restored.
(10) The Giant Titan (w/ “Rough House” Ralph Mosca) defeated “Super Fan” Chet Douglas.
At the last FCW show Mosca verbally offered his championship experience to Titan and the offer was accepted. But Titan and Mosca were not expecting Douglas to take the Undertaker persona into battle. For a moment it appeared to affect Titan until he realized who it was, then it was on. Actually it was on for Douglas who tried to go old school but ended up on his butt in a corner with Titan’s boot in his throat. Titan sent Douglas to the corner but Douglas slid down and crashed into the bottom corner’s ring post. Douglas got to his feet and went for a corner splash but Titan caught him in a bear hug. Douglas fought out of the hold and actually got Titan off his feet when the Giant missed a legdrop. Douglas hit him with several flying forearm shots but Mosca interference allowed Titan to hit a ring shaking chokeslam to win.
(11) FCW Southern Heavyweight champion Ted DiBiase Jr. defeated Johnny Curtis.
In the opening moments DiBiase spent more time backing away from Curtis and trying to figure out a way to get on offensive. Curtis was able to take DiBiase down into an armbar but the champion got to his feet and took Curtis to a corner. DiBiase got in a punch and a corner whip but ran into a boot. But Curtis’ next move saw him go over the top rope and crashing to the floor where DiBiase slammed him into the ringpost. DiBiase brought Curtis back to the ring where the attack was focused on the ribs. DiBiase took Curtis down into a body scissor that was conveniently close to the ropes so he could grab them for extra leverage. The referee missed it once but not twice and called for the break. DiBiase argued with the referee and it nearly cost him as Curtis got to his feet but the champion ducked a move and hit a clothesline. DiBiase went up top but Curtis fought him off and brought DiBiase off with a sunset flip power bomb. Curtis got to his feet first and tagged DiBiase with punches and clotheslines that got two. Curtis felt the title in his grasp but DiBiase hit a powerslam for two. DiBiase went for the Million Dollar Dream but Curtis countered into an enziguri. Before hitting a top rope legdrop for two as DiBiase got his foot on the bottom rope. Curtis grabbed DiBiase for a running powerslam but as the slam was going down DiBiase slid off Curtis and rolled him up in a pin with help from having both hands on the second rope.
